Find out what its like to be an Analyst in Research

There’s so much to love about life at Barclays. It’s a well-regarded institution with a good company culture. The work is intellectually stimulating and I like the people I work with. And of course, there’s being in New York – I love living in the city.

I’m a publishing research analyst, so I spend a lot of my day writing research, building models, and talking to clients about thoughts and recommendations on the companies I cover. When I joined, I spent the first two years covering Investment Grade Healthcare, Pharma, and Health Insurance. Since then, I’ve pivoted to cover High Yield Consumer, Retail, Food & Beverage, and Restaurants, all within the same broader Credit Research group.

Helping clients is really one of the most rewarding parts of my role, and I love the collaboration.

Fundamentally, the work I do means we can help our clients make good investment decisions, as well as help our sales and trade partners maintain a good dialogue with clients too. Helping clients is really one of the most rewarding parts of my role, and I love the collaboration – working closely with those other teams to give clients a holistic view.

One of the most challenging aspects, really, is the breadth of companies I work with – the businesses are constantly evolving and there’s a lot to learn. In my very first role here, for instance, I helped my senior analyst initiate coverage of around 15 companies – a big accomplishment for me.

From that experience, and from the experiences I’ve had since, my advice would be to ask as many questions as you can early in your career. You’ll be working with incredibly smart people, and they all want you to learn and grow.
