Please see below the answers to some commonly asked questions regarding the hiring process for all hires, excluding those being hired as part of the internship, graduate or apprenticeship programme. As Barclays continues to closely monitor the COVID-19 outbreak, we will continue to update this page on developments.

What is Barclays doing about coronavirus (COVID-19) to ensure the safety of your colleagues and new joiners?

The safety and wellbeing of our colleagues, customers and clients is our number one priority. We’re continuously monitoring the situation regarding the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and receiving specialist advice in response to the latest government and public health information. That means implementing changes in our ways of working and rethinking how to set up new joiners with the correct equipment. Our managers are keeping colleagues and new joiners up to date with any adjustments that may be required.

Are you still hiring new colleagues at this time?

Yes. This is an evolving situation, and whilst our priority is to support our critical roles, other roles are available – please browse our jobs pages at

How do I apply for role at Barclays?

Please visit, and apply for the role that interests you. We look forward to hearing from you.

When will you tell me how my application is progressing?

Our teams are working hard to keep applications moving, but due to current circumstances we might take a little longer than usual. Please be patient - you'll hear from us as soon as we have looked at your application.

Should I expect any delays at this time?

Unfortunately you may experience delays in the application process. This is a constantly changing situation, but we know you may be anxious and we'll do everything we can to keep things moving smoothly.

Will social distancing and working from home have an impact on the interview process?

Yes. Following government advice, we will not conduct face-to-face interviews at present. This is to keep both you and our colleagues safe.

How will you conduct interviews?

There are a number of ways we can interview you including WebEx, Skype and phone. We’ll discuss which way works best for you.

Will I be able to meet my line manager, or visit the site, before I accept a role?

We need to keep everyone safe in line with government guidelines, so cannot guarantee this.  Where line managers are on site this might be possible. You can be sure we'll be reviewing all options as the situation evolves.

How has the COVID-19 outbreak affected the hiring process at Barclays?

Our managers are working constantly to support the changing needs of our business at this time. We hope you’ll understand that this might cause delays in hiring, but your application is important to us and we’ll do everything we can to bring you on board as quickly as possible.

What is the timeline I can expect from interview to offer?

We cannot give you a guaranteed timeline at present, but rest assured we’ll keep you informed at every stage of the process.

Will I be expected to work onsite or in the office when I join?

We are following current government guidelines to keep all our colleagues as safe as possible, and we’ll treat you with the same care. If your role means you are a ‘key worker’, where you’ll need to be onsite or in a branch, we’ll let you know at the time of your offer.

If I need to work from home, how will I obtain the equipment I’ll need?

Each location will be different. We’re working on the best way to get your equipment to you, and your hiring manager will make sure you’re supported from your first day.

I have children who need my care. Will this have an impact on my starting a new role?

We’ll treat all new joiners with the same care we show to existing colleagues. If you can’t join the office because of sickness, self-quarantine, travel disruption, the need to look after dependents, or because you have an increased risk relating to COVID-19, your hiring manager will give you all the support you need.
