About Corporate Banking

Corporate Banking (CB) provides integrated banking solutions, specialist advice, products and services to businesses of all sizes including Mid-Corporates and Large Corporates, multi-national companies, financial institutions and non- Bank FI’s in the UK and non-UK markets.

Corporate Banking is responsible for the product development, management and delivery of Cash, FX, Liquidity, Trade & Working capital & Lending products to the client base of Barclays PLC: UK Corporates, International Corporates and Financial Institutions (ICB). Total revenue is approximately £2.5bn, from [200+] products Globally.

Overall purpose of role

  • Manage and co-ordinate the Europe change portfolio ensuring challenging but realistic plans are in place. 
  • Develop the business readiness roadmap across the e2e to support the European strategy and outcomes  
  • Ensure the European operating model is designed effectively, and processes and services are fully scaled to meet Business demand.
  • Embed the portfolio of change within the Europe ensuring appropriate governance ensuring any regulatory requirements are met

Key Accountabilities

  • Business
    • Accountable for Programme Management of the European ICB portfolio and driving at pace the strategic change agenda, ensuring frameworks are in place and operated effectively
    • Lead the European Execution Board
    • Ensure material changes within the Europe portfolio follow the Global change standard and managed through the Global Business Change Control Forum and Portfolio Working Group (PWG) where appropriate
    • Oversight the execution of strategic change, ensuring change is delivered and embedded aligned to regulator (CBI, CBE etc), client and business outcomes.
    • Create and manage portfolio reporting, provide senior management with insights into the plan, delivery health, benefits, bottlenecks and areas of concern/decisions requiring attention
    • Create and own the European Business readiness roadmap ensuring change is co-ordinated and landed across the business
    • Accountable for the Product Lifecycle framework ensuring this is operated across Europe.
    • Ensure effective operating model and service management oversight is in place
  • Governance & Controls
    • Lead and manage the Europe business change governance framework bringing together the numerous programmes  and ensuring regulatory requirements are met.
    • Accountable for ensuring that all strategic and ‘in business’ change is fit-for-purpose, efficient, has adequate governance and controls in place from the outset to ensure we manage the business in a risk aware manner
    • Own and drive the global change standard for Europe ICB
    • Ensure Records Management compliance
    • Management of pipeline into BCCF and NAPA, ensuring a smooth pathway for the business, whilst maintaining quality and control on business case proposals
    • Partner with Op Rigour and NAPA team

  • Leadership
    • Leadership of a programme of work in-line with best practise to ensure visibility of all material changes across Europe  
    • Provide strong enterprise-wide leadership in a matrix environment, working across the group, engaging directly with the Senior Executives (MD’s) and Executive Committee (ExCo) to ensure alignment between Business teams and BX goals and objectives,
    • Lead and co-ordinate change oversight through both direct and virtual teams spanning many business, BX Tech and Functional areas.
  • Provide strategic direction to a diverse range of Managing Directors and Accountable Executives
  • Identify business opportunities for collaboration across Group & Corporate Banking and develop enterprise wide solutions
  • Communicate effectively and extensively throughout the organisation

  • Challenge process and bureaucracy to empower colleagues to drive business decisions

  • Technology
  • Develop and Lead the Europe business readiness strategy ensuring this is in place for all programmes
  • Manage the SI new demand for the Europe and Run the bank (RtB) costs, driving cost reduction as new capabilities are delivered
  • Maintain awareness of the changing technology environment and landscape

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Given the importance of the growth agenda for International Corporate (ICB), Global Transaction Banking & Global Lending Group, the role involves extensive interaction with senior internal and external stakeholders across BI.  The successful candidate will be able to explain complex matters in a way that is helpful to a broad range of stakeholders, taking on board differing, sometimes opposing, points of view, ensuring an outcome that is appropriate within the relevant risk appetite and budget capacity.  They will also be able to take on a leadership role in broader projects that have an impact or interface with International Corporate Bank, Transaction Banking & Global Lending Group across the Group.

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Person Specification

  • The role holder will be a trusted adviser influencing the senior functional management and other forums/committees outside of own function
  • Able to lead from cross functions to drive better client and company outcomes
  • Deep understanding of the regulator and previous experience in delivering change within Europe and globally
  • Able to successfully lead at all levels and influence decisions Strong commercial skills and excellent business acumen
  • Demonstrable experience of managing portfolios and large change programs currently or in recent past
  • 7+ years management experience, with proven coaching and colleague development skills
  • A natural leader, able to adapt style according to the audience, whilst maintaining authenticity
  • Outstanding stakeholder management at all levels, up to and including regional and global executive level.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

The role holder will ideally be educated to degree level or hold an appropriate alternative professional qualification

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

Comprehensive technical knowledge and experience with regards to Corporate Banking products. 

Good knowledge of industry trends and practices within the Corporate Banking environment

Able to demonstrate a history of business development and life cycle management

The role holder is required to maintain a good level of relevant product and functional knowledge, and to have insights into external market developments / initiatives.
