Big Data Platform Engineer
Glasgow
As a Barclays Big Data Platform Engineer, you will work alongside developers, business analysts and testers on implementation of software solutions that are used to aid the detection of Financial Crime activities across large-scale data sets. You will help us build a state of art Hadoop-based platform for financial crime analysis and will have opportunity to learn and contribute to the platform tooling, stability, security and efficiency for development.

What will you be doing?
• Being a custodian of Hadoop based development platform, you will maintain a productive relationship with all key stakeholders
• Working closely with other engineers and developers to identify and implement improvements of the Hadoop and related infrastructure
• Working with platform teams to implement tooling for the project and for Financial Crime business stakeholders like installation of agents for tools integration
• You will have an opportunity to learn and shape a complex big data solution for financial crime compliance of large international bank.
• Driving improvements in development and Devops space
• Driving the deployment of the components, liaise with support group, and provide necessary automation
• Participating in Level 3 production support, mainly supporting issues root cause analysis and drive resolution with the support group
• Learning the technologies and the functional aspects of the projects that you are involved in, through self-training and other trainings offered in the team.
What we’re looking for:
• Experience with Hadoop architecture, HDFS, Spark, Hive,
• Knowledge of security principles – Linux security model, Kerberos,
• Cloud Technology knowledge such as AWS or Openshift
Skills that will help you in the role:
• Programming capabilities in Scala and functional programming would be an advantage
• Devops experience, with good knowledge of CI/CD setup and technologies
• Scripting languages practical experience, preferably Bash or Python
