About BUK Compliance

Barclays UK (BUK) Compliance is transforming alongside the BUK business.  Our oversight activities are focussed on BUK’s conduct and reputation risk management.  Our goal is to provide action-focussed and risk-based oversight and guidance to the BUK business to ensure good outcomes for BUK’s customers and good market conduct.

Overall purpose of role

The Director of COO Compliance will, along with other Directors and Managing Directors in BUK Compliance and Compliance colleagues in India, be part of the Barclays Global Service Centre, India (BGSC)Compliance Leadership Team.  The Compliance team are split into Centres of Excellence (CoE) based on expertise.  The role holder will be part of the Leadership team for the COO business across a broad range of Risk & Control activities across the relevant businesses.  The role will also be working closely with the BUK COO Compliance Team

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide oversight of Conduct risks and, in partnership with Legal, provide advice and oversight on rules, guidance and proposed regulatory changes;
  • Proving oversight, guidance and escalation on complex/high profile issues whilst ensuring the business deliver high quality, timely commitments internally and externally to regulators;
  • Provide oversight and challenge through all key Governance fora’s such as the BGSC India Control Forum, as well as through regulator internal reporting e.g. Monthly BUK Chief Compliance Officer’s report , Quarterly Compliance Report (QCR), leadership updates etc.;
  • Providing thought leadership within the Compliance function including the continued embedment of the Business Oversight Compliance (BOC) Target Operating Model (TOM);
  • Ensure robust stakeholder management with senior BUK  Leadership in BGSC

  • Provide timely resolution and escalation on key issues to local and global stakeholders

  • Invest in the development of colleagues across the Customer team through meaningful development plans;
  • Act as a central escalation for matters requiring the oversight of the Head of  COO  and Transformation Compliance (BUK) and Head of Compliance – India .
  • Contribute to local, regional and global Compliance department, including outside of specific sub-function

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

Regular interactions of the role holder will include:

  • The Head of the BUK Operations & Technology in BX India –
  • The Head of Chief Controls Office responsible for BUK Operations
  • Direct reports of the Head of BUK Operations, Technology  and Chief Controls Office
  • Compliance  - India Management Team and Compliance – India Leadership team
  • BUK COO Compliance Team, BUK Compliance Management Team and BUK Compliance Leadership Team

Decision-making and Problem Solving

The role requires extensive judgment and analytical skills.  The complexity and breadth of coverage is such that extensive cooperation across compliance is required as well as the ability to analyse complex data and management information and make judgement across a wide range of regulations

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
