Assistant Vice President, Investment Banking Legal

As a Barclays Assistant Vice President (AVP), Investment Banking Legal, you will be accountable for providing legal coverage supporting the Asia Pacific Investment Banking Division on capital markets and mergers and acquisitions related transactions across the region. This is an opportunity to manage all legal risk arising from a wide variety of investment banking-related transactions with a particular emphasis on debt capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, structured capital markets, liability management and related products.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing day-to-day legal advice supporting the APAC Investment Banking team
  • Working with members of the APAC Legal team and other control functions on development of policies and procedures
  • Advising on structuring transactions in various jurisdictions, reviewing and drafting legal documentation, assisting with transaction management on legal documentation
  • Managing external counsel across APAC and coordinating, supervising and reviewing legal analysis undertaken by international and local counsel in respect of relevant legal issues
  • Ensuring that all transactions and advice on are in compliance with regulatory requirements and Barclays policies and standards
  • Developing and maintenance of legal documentation templates used by IBD including Chinese language translations of key documentation and Chinese language templates
  • Being accountable to Head of Investment Banking Legal, Asia Pacific for performance and quality of work product

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified lawyer with two to five years-plus PQE at a top tier law firm or in-house role at an international bank or financial institution
  • Significant deal experience in debt/equity capital markets and/or mergers and acquisitions transactions across a number of international and Asia Pacific jurisdictions
  • Solid knowledge of securities laws affecting, and legal documentation used in connection with, international and cross-border offerings in a number of Asia Pacific jurisdictions
  • Must have excellent communication and drafting skills and be highly organised, structured and professional

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Solid transaction management and interpersonal skills with the ability to produce results under pressure
  • Fluent written and spoken English is required and fluent written and spoken Mandarin Chinese language skills would be a distinct advantage
  • Pro-active team player who is highly motivated and prepared to take on challenges and responsibility across more than one business line
  • Genuine interest in different areas of the law and demonstrate keen observation of topical developments in debt and equity capital markets and M&A throughout Asia Pacific

Where will you be working?

Our offices are situated in the center of Hong Kong’s financial district, at 2 Queen’s Road. Cheung Kong Centre is an investment banking hub that offers panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Peninsula. There is a variety of local amenities and you will be just a short walk from shopping malls, health clubs and multiple transport links.
