Job Title: API Development Lead

Location: Pune

  • Hands-on experience in the development, design, maintenance and integration of software solutions.
  • Proficiency in core java programming, spring framework.
  • Hands-on experience in developing Microservices.
  • Should have understanding of Service Mesh architectural patterns.
  • Provide complex cloud based solutions.
  • Familiar with automated testing, acceptance testing, tdd, bdd
  • Experience working with complex applications with multiple stakeholders in a fast paced environment globally.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, you like to figure out how things work.
  • The ability to resolve production issues escalated to you.
  • Experience with the full software development life cycle predominantly with agile methodologies.
  • Experience improving older code bases as well as in using modern design patterns.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in english, and the desire to work together with stakeholders.
  • Excellent research, investigation and evaluation skills.
  • Software craftsperson focused on delivering clean code.
  • Proactive, keeping stakeholders well informed of development effort status.
  • Comfortable working in dynamic environments with fast-paced deliveries.
  • Process oriented and have worked in an onshore-offshore model.
  • Comfortable interacting with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • Skilled at recognizing system deficiencies and implementing effective solutions.

What will you be doing?

Technical Consultancy (20%)  

  • Provide technical consultancy for new initiatives, to assist in the definition of business solutions or technical strategies.
  • Acts as a trusted adviser to project teams to interpret the API Strategy and understand the API/ Platform technologies
  • Provide input, contribute and review Architecture Visions and High Level designs for projects using the API Ecosystem
  • Provide estimates for engineering work in the production of Advice and Guidance (A&G) documents and project Plan and Estimates (P&Es).
  • Solve unique and complex technical problems with broad impact on the business unit as a whole.
  • Provide full and detailed analysis, insightful commentary and recommendations for technical action as appropriate.
  • Develop a broad awareness of new tools, processes and technical developments relevant to component area of expertise, and seek opportunities to apply them.
  • To aid in the definition of API strategy and Roadmaps.

Requirements Gathering (10%)

  • Liaise with business clients to help shape initial ideas into firm API requirements, ensuring that they are sufficiently comprehensive and detailed to support effective API development.
  • Present complex technical ideas (both written and verbal), anticipate potential objections and persuade others to adopt the most appropriate view.
  • Establish an end-to-end view and capture all key requirements. Establish clear functional and non-functional requirements (e.g. capacity, availability, response times, etc.).
  • Ensure that all requirements are 'testable' and agree test strategy with business and test team lead.
  • Understand technical constraints of live environment / architecture, support business clients in understanding any ‘requirement versus cost’ trade-offs.

Technical Design and Application Architecture (50%)

  • Produce Detailed design artefacts such as word document, confluence pages, visio diagrams
  • Understand the various phases of the software development lifecycle.
  • Work with the API Platforms teams and tech domain to ensure API Management principles are considered and adopted
  • Undertake impact assessment of change requests against the API Engineering.
  • Review solution/E2E designs to ensure compatibility with the API component design.
  • Review test strategies to guarantee the quality of the delivered changes; assist in the diagnosis of system problems encountered during testing.
  • Collaborate with other component design and build teams, ensuring that end-to-end system design is followed.
  • Ensure that technical engineering quality standards / benchmarks are met, taking remedial action where there are quality shortfalls.
  • Complete technically-complex assignment work to budget, time and quality requirements. Document all work in accordance with agreed standards, and with re-use in mind.
  • Where API development is part of a wider set of interdependent component changes, collaborate with the E2E Designers from the other areas to ensure end-to-end technical integrity of the development, leading this collaboration when required.

Stakeholder Management (10%)

  • Provide input to the Project Manager(s) to help identify and engage the resources needed to ensure the success of project(s).
  • Provide input to the technical development approach of a project, balancing cost, time, quality and risk.
  • Assist in the identification, management and resolution of technical Risks, Assumptions, Issues and Dependencies (RAIDs).
  • Assist project manager(s) in controlling projects and reporting progress, providing input from a technology perspective. Make decisions within general technical / industry guidelines.
  • Responsible for interacting with an established stakeholder engagement for the product, across the Business and IT functions including but not limited to:
    1. Senior Leaders and Accountable Executives
    2. CIO Partners
    3. IT Architects
    4. Service Managers
    5. Project Managers
    6. Business Change Managers
    7. Business Product Owners
    8. SI Partners and 3rd parties
    9. Infrastructure  Services (GTIS)

Supplier Management (5%)

  • Assist in supplier evaluation and selection for specific project deliverables. Review supplier proposals for commercial value, good practice, clear understanding of work to be done and capability to execute it.
  • Ensure that suppliers are provided with necessary support relating to Barclays systems, technologies, strategies and standards, to enable the supplier to successfully undertake their assignment.
  • Review supplier deliverables ensuring that they meet the necessary standards and contractual agreements.

Team Leadership and Staff Development (5%)           

  • Provide Leadership within an agile team, proactively identifying ways to improve the people development
  • If requested, undertake performance development (PD) responsibility for engineering staff, setting objectives then reviewing and assessing performance.
  • Identify development needs of staff in the design and development teams and assist them in addressing their development needs through guidance and coaching.
  • Contribute to operational objectives of wider team and support any organisational transformation initiatives.
  • Evaluate and review emerging end-to-end design and integration methods, tools and standards. Look for ways to apply as appropriate.
  • Identify own development needs and proactively drive development of own capability, using all available means, to achieve world class standards

What we’re looking for:

  • Demonstrable experience in a Solution Designer or Solution Architect role with strong evidence of end-to-end delivery
  • Able to independently drive solution & comfortable dealing with ambiguity.
  • Strong evidence of design techniques covering all phases of the project lifecycle, both Agile and Waterfall
  • Demonstrable knowledge of accessible design and Human Computer Interaction design

       Experience of at least 2 of the following:

  • Java
  • Spring MVC
  • Databases (Oracle, SQL Server)
  • Service Orientated Architecture
  • Micro Services
  • Banking platforms (including contact centre platforms)

Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Financial services, investment management/banking (preferred)
  • Broad knowledge of Barclays Group(beneficial)
  • BE degree in relevant software engineering discipline.
  • Formal qualification in area of specialism, e.g. Sun Java certification (beneficial).
