I graduated from The College of the Holy Cross and majored in Political Science. I’ve always been interested in markets, and seeing how economic and political events drive markets led me to pursue a career in sales and trading.
Interning at Barclays not only allowed me to determine which desk I was most interested in, but it also provided me insight into the culture and people at the bank. My favourite part of my job is the people I’ve gotten to know and how much I’ve been able to learn.
The advice I’d give to anyone joining is, look at every day as an opportunity to learn.
I’m genuinely fascinated by working in FX; how it encompasses the entire world, which means that there are always events to follow and learn about. The British Election and the market volatility in March were most memorable. These were significant events that affected the market.
Learning new concepts can be challenging, but it’s a supportive environment and everyone wants to help you and see you succeed. The team at Barclays have provided me with so many resources and courses to help me learn about the entire finance industry – not just resources specific to my role. Honestly, the level of resources and time the bank invests in each one of its employees in order to help them grow is unparalleled.
The advice I’d give to anyone joining is, look at every day as an opportunity to learn something new and better yourself. You’ll have chances to learn something every day. It’s been so valuable to me, to challenge myself like that – and to be able to call myself a colleague of the talented people who work here.
