Briefly describe your career path and how it led to your current position at Barclays.

I've been a developer, created my own app and then worked as a designer at a data and analytics company. I've used the Barclays app for years so I thought, why not apply?

Why did you choose to work at Barclays?

Barclays impressed me with how much rigour they put in user research and the design process.

What do you enjoy most when working in design?

Being surrounded by so many people who live and breathe design, not just digital. In my team we often talk about physical products, cinematography and live experiences.

Describe your typical day-to-day responsibilities.

Tweaking flows and screens. Walking through designs. Discussions with Product Owners and stakeholders. Answering queries from developers.

Where are you based and what do you like most about being on that campus?

London. There’s a Starbucks in the office, I'm always caffeinated up.

What has been the best thing about your journey with Barclays so far?

Meeting a huge number of people from different backgrounds. Colleagues who have published astrophotography, designed furniture or had their art displayed in galleries.

What’s the most rewarding part of your current role?

Seeing participants test prototypes I’ve created. It's great to see them smile or even frown when they use them.

What is the most challenging part of your current role?

Making trade-offs.

Describe the most interesting project or deal you’ve worked on and what your role was. What was the outcome and why was it important? How did it make you feel?

I designed Subscriptions through Barclays. Now customers can get, manage and cancel subscriptions through the Barclays app.

How do you/your team contribute to your internal or external clients’ success? How does that make you feel?

I created my own dashboard where I can see conversation rates, number of sales and other metrics. It feels great to see numbers go up after you've design them to.

How would you describe Barclays’ culture? Provide an example or two that supports your description.

Customer obsessed. User research is a huge part of our process and I've sat in dozens of sessions, listening to people speak, not just about prototypes but also their problems and needs.

Describe your experience with Barclays training and development opportunities. How have they helped you advance in your career?

I've been given a lot of time to pursue training courses I'm interested. I took the GDS Content Design course from FutureLearn and it really helped with both my designs and guides I've written.

Of all the things Barclays offers you (i.e. mobility, training, client exposure, ability to make change, challenging work, career options, etc.), what do you value most and why?

Ability to make change. Everything we do affects millions of people at every step of their life.

What makes you proud to work at Barclays?

Diversity & Inclusion. We celebrate who you are, educate and make sure you always feel welcomed.

Describe Barclays in three words

Friendly. Big. Ambitious.

If you met a potential candidate who you thought would be right for Barclays, what would you say to convince them to join us over another organisation?

24 million Barclays customers are waiting for you to help them live their best life.

If you could give advice to someone joining Barclays on their very first day, what would you say?

Chat to as many people as you can, regardless of seniority or team. We want to help and know you.
