Erin Heath, a Test Engineer, says that you never stop learning at Barclays 

I joined Barclays as an apprentice on the Software Engineer Degree scheme. It was a four-year commitment and all the while I was still at uni.  

Juggling the two was tough going at times. But the hands-on learning made the early starts worth it. As a student, working with experienced engineers was like gold dust. They helped me pick up the good habits and problem-solving techniques that no amount of classroom teaching could.  

The learning hasn’t stopped since my apprenticeship ended. With so many projects going through the business at any one time, there’s always opportunities to grow your knowledge and experience at Barclays.    

This culture of learning brings its own rewards. 

And that’s before we even get to the impact we’re having on our customers: making their finances easier to manage and opening up access to banking for some of the most vulnerable. 

Take my current project, a new financial planning app. It helps people to have a single view of all their finances and their goals in one place – so they know their exact situation at any given moment. Clearer, simpler, less faff.  

Hearing from senior leadership has inspired me and supported my development. That’s why I’m keen to deepen my expertise in AI. This new technology will help us create even faster and more seamless solutions for our customers. It’s the future of banking and I’m happy to be a part of it at Barclays.
