What is Discovery?

Discovery is a two-day insight programme that takes place in April. It’s the chance to learn about a career at Barclays, the chance to find out a lot about the business world and to discover a bit about yourself. And, as you’ll gain a good understanding of the full selection of roles and opportunities we offer, it’s a perfect stepping stone to one of our 8-week internships.

Day 1

You’ll learn all about Barclays: who we are and what we do. You’ll also enjoy interacting with us through technical, soft skills and networking workshops.

Day 2

We’ll learn all about you through two easy-to-understand assessments. If all goes well, you’ll be offered a place on our Summer Internship 2023.

The highlights

Discover your path

This is your opportunity to explore the roles, internships and a fascinating variety of career paths - from data and digital to marketing and of course, banking and investments.

Do and Develop

Build your understanding of the working world and see behind the scenes of a global business.

Get a Head-start

You will be given the chance to apply, before anyone else, to our 8-week Summer Internships in 2023.

Who’s this programme for?

The Barclays Discovery Diversity Programme is open to all students who are 2 years out from graduation. It’s an opportunity to explore the wide-ranging internship opportunities we offer, and secure a place on one of them. We target these opportunities particularly at key underrepresented groups in each of the regions where we run internship programmes.

The internships cover all kinds of roles and skills, so it doesn’t matter what degree you’re taking. For example, we offer a whole range of technology-focused programmes – so if you are an aspiring developer or an expert coder, you’ll discover a our technical opportunities.

For a long time, the conversation was focused on gender, but since Black Lives Matter we’ve been talking a lot more about race. Our Race at Work Charter gives us a clear way forward and we’re hiring a lot more diverse talent in Risk.

I studied Biochemical Engineering at university – so, certainly not your typical financial services background. It just goes to show that no matter what background you have, you can succeed at Barclays if you play to your strengths, persevere and are curious to learn.

I studied Psychology at university. It was there that I realised I was more interested in the data side of research, rather than the theory, and came across Barclays Internal Audit. I spotted familiar ground: planning and conducting testing, and writing reports – so I took the leap and now here I am.

I majored in Organisation Theory and I was keen to put what I had learnt to use in a Banking environment. As I explored the cultures and offerings from different Banks, Barclays really stood out as the place that could provide everything I was looking for.
