As Centre Head of Research IT I joined Barclays as a very junior analyst with only part-time experience, but I’d been coding since I was 15 so had some skills to offer. I like to solve problems, and there were plenty to solve, so that’s what I started doing.

After working on smaller projects, I was assigned to design, build and own our Review List application which saw me working directly with senior business people in New York. The success of this project brought me my first promotion to Assistant Vice President. Then I was given the chance to work on native Android development: after a year of completely rewriting code, we successfully delivered the application and I was made Mobile Team Lead. Our team expanded our scope to include iOS development, covering our Barclays Live mobile app, and then to an even bigger project, Composer. This brought me my second promotion to Vice President, and then another to Site Lead. I’m proud to have delivered so many significant projects, and to have grown my role to lead a team of 30 people before I was 30 years old.
