What to expect
Capital Markets is organised into several specialist areas covering equity and debt origination, loans, structuring, risk management and syndication. The opportunities and challenges in this part of our business come thick and fast – and in all shapes and sizes. No matter which area you intern in, you’ll learn from the best in the business, immerse yourself in our culture, and be involved in real projects. Here are our core businness units that you might have the chance of experiencing:
Debt Capital Markets
This division collaborates with investment-grade rated companies to facilitate primary debt raising. As a graduate, you'll partner with our seasoned experts to craft and organize fixed income securities, subsequently promoting them to potential investors. In addition to various responsibilities, this debt plays a vital role in funding acquisitions, capital outlays, and the refinancing of bonds or other fixed-maturity debt securities.
Global Finance Advisory
This group employs an analytical approach to address conventional corporate finance inquiries. As a graduate, you will delve into areas including cash allocation, capital structure management, and the mitigation of financial risks within companies.
Equity Capital Markets
This team provides guidance to corporations, institutions, and governments regarding a variety of products aimed at raising equity capital, monetizing positions, and managing ownership interests. As a graduate, you will play a role in structuring and implementing equity and equity-linked transactions.
Leveraged Finance
You’ll join a team that generates funding for companies that already have a considerable amount of debt. And because the funding is riskier, it’s also more costly, resulting in capital structures relying on a higher degree of financial leverage. As part of this team, you’ll provide clients with appropriate advice on how to manage existing capital structures in an ever-changing market environment and collaborate with Coverage and Credit Risk teams to carry out analysis that will support Barclay’s underwriting decision-making.
Risk Solutions Group
RSG assists corporate clients in handling their vulnerability to financial risks, including fluctuations in interest rates, foreign exchange rates, and inflation. Through the design and promotion of interest rate and currency derivatives, this division safeguards clients from the inherent risks associated with activities like mergers, acquisitions, debt financing, and various other transactions. As a recent graduate, you'll be responsible for crafting precise solutions that can adapt effectively to the constantly changing landscape of risks.
Syndicate
This team serves as a vital link between the private and public sectors of an investment bank, handling primary market transactions involving fixed income securities. Whether it's managing multi-billion dollar bond deals or arranging bridge loans for acquisition financing, this group provides a diverse array of financing solutions to our global issuing clients.
Corporate Broking
Corporate Broking holds a central position within Barclays' UK advisory and capital markets enterprises. This unit plays a crucial role in propelling the growth of the investment banking platform by leveraging its well-established connections with some of the UK's most prominent and captivating publicly listed corporations.
