Meet Rosie Boyce, Private Banking Graduate

Rosie joined the Barclays Graduate programme following her internship. She believed the supportive culture she experienced throughout her internship, with opportunities for development and growth, made Barclays an excellent place to begin her professional career. She chose Barclays for two main reasons: its position as a market leader in the UK, and the culture. Rosie is now a Private Banker based in London’s head office in 1 Churchill Place.

Following my internship, I began the graduate program in 2020, throughout which I undertook three rotations. The first was in our investment strategy team, where I worked closely with our macroeconomic specialist, producing research and resources for both internal and external stakeholders. The second was in our client experience chief of staff team, where I took a central role in strategic planning for one of the business pillars, along with a project role focused on delivery. In my second rotation, I led on the onboarding of a new external supplier to Barclays. This was a key project, involving stakeholders up to MD level, and I had to work very closely with colleagues across the Private Bank, legal, compliance and the supplier to ensure this landed with a very tight deadline. It was daunting having such a high level of responsibility whilst navigating an unfamiliar process, but getting the contract signed filled me with equal amounts relief and pride. My final rotation was in our UK Regions team. Following this rotation, I rolled off the graduate program as a Junior Private Banker in this team, covering the South Region.

I have found the people at Barclays incredibly open and always willing to help those around them. Even senior leaders are always happy to give time to their junior colleagues and are very invested in our growth and progress.

The variety of my role is really exciting and keeps every day fresh. Having the role of the trusted advisor and working with our clients to help them achieve their financial goals is really gratifying, and you build very strong relationships with incredibly interesting people. My day to day is largely driven by the client queries that come into my team. I also regularly meet with clients in person, either at the London or Bristol offices. Ahead of these meetings, the team will spend significant time preparing, be that creating a pitch deck or assessing the client’s assets and likely queries they will have. In this role, there really is no such thing as a typical day, they are all so different!

We partner with our clients as their trusted advisors, working with them to help them achieve their financial goals. Therefore, my team is intrinsically linked to our clients’ financial success.

I have found the people at Barclays incredibly open and always willing to help those around them. Through the graduate scheme I have completed both the Investment Management Certificate, and CFA Level 1, which have given me the technical grounding and confidence I need to discuss our product set with clients. The ability to collaborate with colleagues at all levels of seniority and the wide exposure I have had as a graduate has been invaluable. Junior colleagues are encouraged to take ownership of projects and are empowered to make changes.

Very few organisations will allow you as much responsibility whilst being so junior. Your voice and opinion are held in high regard at the organisation, which is a rare find.
