A well-balanced approach

Sarah has been with Barclays for 12 years, in a number of technical Service Management roles. She recently moved into a new role within tech, as Programme Manager in Barclays Financial Assistance (BFA), where she acts as a conduit between Operations and Technology to ensure smooth project delivery. She divides her time between our Manchester office and Radbroke, Barclays’ technology hub in Cheshire. She works three days a week, seamlessly balancing her professional career and her role as mother to a young family.

Service excellence: our common goal

“My work is all about collaboration and teamwork: our common goal of providing excellent service to our customers is at the heart of everything we do. Prior to my current role, I led a programme called Service Excellence, that drives a culture shift in both front-line colleagues in our branch network and the different teams within Technology. By fostering a ‘one team’ mindset, Service Excellence increased colleague engagement, brought great insight into the evolution of our technology solutions, and delivered a much better experience to our customers. I was very proud to be recognised as 2017 IT Service and Support Professional of the Year by the British Computer Society for this work.”

I’m driven to deliver while enjoying an excellent work-life balance.

The application of citizenship

“I’m very proud of my involvement in the creation of the first mobile app for the Childline Charity. At Barclays, we believe strongly in citizenship, so it was a great pleasure to be involved in the team working tirelessly with Childline to deliver the app, originally the idea of four schoolgirls. I liaised with the girls on the build, and travelled with them to various radio and television interviews when we launched it. It’s such a worthwhile project, and one that proves Barclays’ intention to be a force for good in the world.

“At the moment, I’m focusing on the delivery of two regulatory programmes for Barclays Financial Assistance, which come with very tough deadlines, but will really benefit our customers. This a new challenge for me – it’s very rewarding to increase my skillset and I know it will drive my career even further forwards.”

Getting the right balance

“I enjoy being part of an organisation that not only respects and values my abilities, but also supports my life outside work. I have worked a three-day week since 2012, and like to be a role model for ‘the right way to do it’ when it comes to flexible working. I thrive on virtual networks to make sure work gets done when I’m at home, and I’m driven to deliver while enjoying an excellent work-life balance. Barclays makes all this possible.”
