Hear from Nano about life and work in Barclays Japan

日本語翻訳 (Japanese Translation)

In my time at Barclays so far, I’ve had many opportunities to grow – I’ve been involved in live deals, and I’m trusted with lots of responsibility and client exposure. To me, it’s the culture that stands out here; it’s very friendly and I remember on my first day being told that we shouldn’t ever hesitate to ask questions.

Coming into Barclays, I didn’t have much finance experience as my degree is in Computer Science. However, thanks to the Initial Training Programme (ITP), I was able to learn all the basics that I’d need to hit the ground running in Investment Banking. Today, as part of the Corporate Finance team, I cover trading houses, natural resources and our power and infrastructure clients. That means I’ll put together pitch books and do valuations, execute live deals, communicate daily with clients and present them with investment opportunities or ideas for how they can develop their business.

The challenging work we do pushes me to be the best version of myself.

What I enjoy is the dynamism of our mergers and acquisitions (M&A) transactions, and how the challenging work we do enables me to stretch and learn new competencies. There’s also a huge sense of accomplishment and excitement when the deal is announced because of the team’s hard work.

I appreciate the supportive relationships we have with colleagues at every level, where we help each other out on a day-to-day basis. Also, being in touch with our global team ensures we are delivering the best outcome for our clients. For me personally, it’s meant I’ve had the chance to learn from people outside of Barclays Japan. Everyone’s so supportive, and I’m constantly growing my skills.
