The Investment Bank is responsible for the investment activities of the organisation, including reporting, asset allocation, risk/return objectives, client relationships, and portfolio management.

As a member of Barclays’ Investment Banking – Capital Markets team, you’ll have an opportunity to support the Japan Banking franchise to create and deliver financing solutions to our corporate and financial institution clients, by assisting senior bankers in originating deals and successfully closing them. You’ll liaise with global teams and be deeply involved in the preparation of material to assist in pitches and execution of deal mandates. Previous experience at a top-tier investment bank or equivalent, a results-driven mindset, and a keen awareness of risk and control are vital. Your ability to foster effective working relationships with colleagues and clients is essential in this role regulated by the Japan Securities Dealers Association (JSDA) and/or Financial Futures Association of Japan (FFAJ). Furthermore, you may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as well-developed oral and written communication skills, native Japanese/business level English speaking skills, as well as job-specific technical skills.

Purpose of the role

To raise capital and manage the financial risk of clients, including financial advisory services, identification and origination of market opportunities, research, economic analysis.  

Accountabilities

  • Development and maintenance of strong relationships with corporate, financial and institutional clients to understand their financing needs and objectives.  .
  • Development and maintenance of complex financial models to assess the value of assets, companies, or securities and identify the most appropriate structuring of capital raising initiatives, including equity financing via an initial public offerings, investment grade debt underwriting, leveraged financing solutions for non-investment grade clients, or derivative hedging solutions.  .
  • Collaboration with Coverage, M&A, Syndicate, Global Markets, and cross functional teams to ensure successful origination, company due diligence, and execution of various capital market transactions.  .
  • Identification, assessment, and management of risks associated with capital markets transactions and development of risk mitigation strategies in alignment with regulatory requirements.  .
  • Research, financial data analysis and continued development of market insights and investment recommendations.  .

  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
