Vice President, Japan Markets Legal

As a Barclays Vice President (VP) - Japan Markets Legal, you will be accountable for legal risk management of a wide variety of transactional activity involving the Japan Markets business, focusing on a pan-asset class basis, including fixed income, FX, fund, equity, prime and credit linked products, including cash, derivatives and structured notes as well as advising on regulatory compliance of global and local market regulations.

What will you be doing?

• Being responsible for individual accountability for day-to-day, often real time, legal advice required to support the Japan Markets and banking businesses
• Accounting for the development and maintenance of essential legal documentation including key templates used by the business
• Structuring and drafting appropriate documentation for, pan-asset Markets products and transactions executed in Japan and potentially other APAC jurisdictions
• Leading and managing external counsel in Japan including cost management of projects up to around USD 25,000
• Being accountable for review and risk analysis of new products and business proposals for the Japan Markets businesses
• Being responsible for the development of legal and compliance policy and procedures

What we’re looking for:

• Qualified Japanese or English law (or other common law jurisdictions) solicitor/attorney with material experience in structured products/derivatives/capital markets/finance
• Working experience at a recognized law firm and/or as an in-house counsel at a recognized financial institution
• Highly conversant with structured notes, derivatives, lending, and fund documentation in English
• Demonstrable product knowledge involving Markets products

Skills that will help you in the role:

• Japanese language skills
• Familiarity with Japanese market conventions
• Ability to operate with minimal supervision

Our office is located in the Roppongi Hills building complex, one of the largest property developments in Japan, with modern and secure offices. The surroundings are known to be highly commercial, with restaurants, shops, gyms, and places to relax.
