Structured Products and Distribution Lawyer

As a Barclays Structured Products and Distribution Lawyer, you will be accountable for the legal risk management of equity-linked structured products (OTC and Barclays’ notes programme), a range of cross border and distribution issues, work relating to Barclays’ proprietary indices, fund linked work including fund-linked derivatives, private placement, and retail funds. This is your opportunity to also provide coverage to the Asia Pacific Markets business, excluding Japan.

What will you be doing?

  • Providing legal advice required to assist with the equity derivatives structuring and sales teams and the funds distribution business across APAC excluding Japan
  • Drafting, negotiating, and advising on product documentations
  • Focusing on products such as product termsheets, confirmations, index license agreements and distribution agreements and advising on related regulatory issues
  • Developing and maintenance of essential legal documentation including key templates used by the business and their automation
  • Leading and managing external counsel in jurisdictions across APAC, excluding Japan
  • Conducting review & risk analysis of new products & business proposals; keeping abreast of new regulations & market practices relevant to the Equities’ business
  • Sharing responsibility for development of legal and compliance policy and procedures

What we’re looking for:

  • Qualified lawyer with experience in equity derivatives, structured products, distribution and regulatory advisory work in a top tier international financial institution or law firm
  • Experienced with ISDA documentation and ISDA product definitions as well as programme documentation for structured note issuance
  • Solid legal risk management and communication skills with experience leading multiple stakeholders in the context of complex transactions and is a pro-active team player
  • Mandarin language skills


Skills that will help you in the role:

  • Some experience with US, EU and/or Asia derivatives regulation
  • Genuine interest in this area of the law and has exposure to topical developments in regulatory changes and derivatives throughout Asia

Our offices are situated in the center of Hong Kong’s financial district, at 2 Queen’s Road. Cheung Kong Centre is an investment banking hub that offers panoramic views of Victoria Harbour and Kowloon Peninsula. There is a variety of local amenities and you will be just a short walk from shopping malls, health clubs and multiple transport links.
