What will you be doing:

In this role, counsel will provide support and legal, regulatory and reputational risk management related to the Credit Sales & Trading Markets Business in the Americas, and more generally to support the Markets Legal team in connection with execution of the strategic priorities of the function and the firm.

Key Accountabilities

·Day-to-day legal coverage and advice on the full range of Americas Credit’s trading and sales products, including investment grade, high-yield and distressed corporate credit bonds and loans; credit derivatives; and structured credit financings and lending.

·Particular focus on supporting new bespoke financing opportunities from the expanding cross-Markets Structured Finance business (which is co-sponsored by the Credit business) in all aspects of the client and transactional lifecycle, including pre-trade legal due diligence, transaction structuring,leading discussions regarding novel transaction features with other internal stakeholders (e.g. Risk, Regulatory Capital team, Ops etc.)and event-driven advice such as counterparty distress and credit enforcement.

·Regulatory change: advising on all aspects of firm and functional regulatory and strategic change projects applicable to the Credit Sales and Trading business. In conjunction with other infrastructure areas, providing input to, and managing the implementation of, various ongoing regulatory initiatives insofar as they impact these businesses;

·Counsel: effective management of external counsel including responsibility for legal spend;

·Knowledge management: delivering updates on relevant legal, regulatory and governance matters to senior management and colleagues within Legal, the business and across the functions; fostering collaboration with other legal teams both within Markets and more broadly to ensure sharing of knowhow and efficient legal coverage.

·Supporting, as needed, other members of Legal Advisory, including those covering the Macro and Emerging Markets businesses.

What we’re looking for:

Bachelor’s degree

Juris Doctor and admission to the New York State bar

7+ years of related experience at a law firm and/or within the legal department at an investment bank.Experience should include industry-level trading agreements (e.g. participations, repos etc.); documentation for structured financings (including credit agreements) and derivatives experience (including a solid grounding in ISDA transaction documentation and related definitions).

Skills that will help you in your role:

Strong written and verbal communication skills in order to convey key legal concepts and regulatory and internal policy requirements to the Credit Trading Business.

Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to facilitate positive colleague and client relationships and to ensure collaboration and respect among colleagues consistent with Barclays Values.

Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced, demanding work environment and to advise stakeholders quickly and precisely on legal risks in order to meet imminent deadlines.
