Overall purpose of role

  • Manage a team of circa 175+ FTE’s responsible for diverse and complex portfolio across Wholesale Lending Operations. 
  • The function involves supporting multiple aspects of the loan lifecyle from origination through to ongoing servicing
  • As a key strategic leadership role within Wholesale Lending Operations, enable and be accountable for the commercial success of the operations division.
  • Lead the support for aspects of the loan lifecyle infrastructure including vision, strategy, and roadmap across supported business units.
  • Work closely with functional partners to communicate the plan with senior business stakeholders, outline  delivery, and achieve business outcomes critical to the success of the business. Understand the complex but communicate in simple terms. Inspire and engage colleagues with a forward-looking view of the customer experience.
  • Act as an influential commercial leader responsible for leading the strategic vision such as deeper domain expertise and operational efficiency for the franchise. 

Key Accountabilities

Product knowledge across multiple Lending journeys within Corporate and Investment Bank -  

Influential leader in IB Loans function with a focus on Bilateral Lending, Syndicated deals, agency led deals across multiple stakeholder group in Banking, Markets and Corporate Bank front office teams.

Leadership

Lead a world class acquiring and support team providing inspirational leadership in line with Barclays Group values within and outside of own function. Accountable for leading, directing and developing the respective operations functions Create an environment that encourages employee retention, promotes high levels of employee engagement and ensures continuous improvements in employee satisfaction Embed a culture of regular reviews and performance management aligned to global standards Contribute in promoting Barclays as an employer of choice Serve as a single point of senior management contact for Barclays senior management and local and global stakeholders as appropriate Act as a champion for change within Barclays Set and communicate common business goals and objectives Leverage and integrate the capabilities of resources across all levels of the firm to accomplish complex objectives Deliver clear and consistent communication on the Vision and Strategy for the development of the various functions Drive through the business strategy and initiatives Recruit and retain top talent and ensure that the right HR framework is in place to attract staff at all levels Constantly review and develop organisational structures that best support the respective functions, both, locally and globally

Relationship Management

Establish and maintain an effective working relationship with key stakeholders locally and globally; across multiple silos Work with appropriate local and global functional owners to ensure cohesion between individual, departmental and firm-wide goals Establish and contribute to appropriate Governance and Relationship forums locally and globally Manage cross functional relationships Participate in the local and global Corporate and greater Barclays community as required Set and meet all service level agreements Embed a culture of constant improvement vs control metric measures Plan and forecast for business growth Drive value added operational performance, develop new strategies to generate change initiatives and promote efficiency Contribute to building new or enhanced process capabilities strategically and operationally; oversee transitions while ensuring operating standards with governance, risk, control and compliance being maintained

Team Management

Measure performance of the team against appropriate local and global SLAs and KPIs Ensure effective allocation and utilisation of resources across the team in order to maximise effectiveness Motivate and coach the team towards achieving goals Formulate long term plans for the development of the team Conduct coaching sessions with the team focusing both on tasks and behavioural issues Create and maintain a culture of empowerment and professionalism within the team Keep the team informed of strategic developments within the business area

Financial Management

Implement and ensure operation within budget limits Responsible for delivery of business financial and headcount targets

Talent Management :

The job requires constantly working with a set of highly talented resources trained to deliver on Barclays Standards. One of the important deliverable is to hire right set of people, training and retention of these resources.

P&L Management :

Risk and Control:

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Person Specification

15+  years of experience, preferably 5-7 year relevant experience in leading a function of 100 plus people in financial services institution with a background in lending products. Strong Leadership skills with an ability to manage teams to achieve common goal whilst managing differing grades across multiple sites.  Excellent oral and written communication. Ability to coach and develop teams, Collaborative approach and good stakeholder management, Target-oriented. Ability to deliver project within agreed timelines and budgets.  Should be able to address complex situation by way of gathering relevant information and decision making Keen analytical skills A strong control awareness, including an understanding of the key controls required in a corporate bank Outstanding leadership qualities and exceptional people management skills.

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

Strong project management skills with ability to deliver in difficult and sometimes unfamiliar circumstances High levels of initiative with ability to work without close supervision and make appropriate decisions Strong planning and strategy skills with ability to develop themes and ideas into credible plans and “sell” these to senior internal and external stakeholders Good understanding of finance and financial reporting Innovative and proactive approach to provide best solutions to business. Align organizational goals to individual goals. Can do attitude with an ability to engage with internal clients in consistent manner.  Customer focused approach to understand business requirements and aligning organisational goals with functional objectives.

Purpose of the role

To manage operations within a business area and maintain processes, risk management initiatives and compliance with relevant regulators. 

Accountabilities

  • Identification of trends and opportunities to improve areas and develop new process and procedures through the monitoring and analysis of operation data and performance metrices.
  • Management of operations for a business area and promote efficient processes, risk management and compliance initiatives to support the bank's operations.
  • Collaboration with internal stakeholders (including business leaders, project manager and SMEs) and external stakeholders (including vendors and service providers) to support business operations and promote alignment with the bank's objectives and SLAs.
  • Management of operational professionals and provide guidance, coaching and support to improve colleagues' delivery quality.
  • Management and development of KPIs to measure the effectiveness of operation functions, utilising data and technology to support the identification of areas that require improvement.
  • Compliance with all regulatory requirements and internal policies related to customer experience.
  • Creation of a safe environment for colleagues to speak up, actively and regularly encourage and solicit feedback to ensure people agenda remains focused on the right areas.
  • Management of attrition by working closely with HR in implementing retention initiatives for work force.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
