Business Management guides and supports the effective management and governance of various business functions, aligning them with the strategic goals of Barclays.

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Business Management AVP to join our dynamic team at Barclays. This role is ideal for individuals looking to develop their career in business management within the investment banking sector and have previous experience in adjacent roles, ideally also in Investment Banking. This is an opportunity to get a global view about the investment banking business at Barclays and drive some of the transformational Business Management processes, with a specific focus to the growing MENA region.

As a Business Manager you will provide short-term operating and administrative leverage to the Investment Banking Business and Group Heads, while simultaneously shaping and executing long-term strategic change. Business management offers holistic operational support to senior banking leaders, including managing strategic analyses, business and client planning, budgeting, HR matters, performance and compensation management, resource expenditures, and client events. 

To be successful as a Business Manager you should have:

  • A bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, or a related field is required
  • Experience in Investment Banking (Either as Banker or as a Business Manager)
  • Proficiency in financial modelling, Microsoft Office products (especially Excel and PowerPoint), and other relevant software tools
  • Excellent internal and external stakeholder engagement

  • Ability to “connect the dots” and drive processes leaning in to make things happen to ensure on time delivery of projects and objectives
  • Ability to treat confidential information with the utmost discretion
  • Able to collaborate across businesses and regions to share best practices and resources, a go-getter attitude with a real team-player approach
  • Flexibility to work non-business hours depending on deal priorities
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess complex financial data and make informed decisions
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively interact with global team
  • Knowledge of regional nuances would be helpful but not a necessity (specifically MENA)

You may be assessed on the key critical skills relevant for success in role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen strategic thinking and digital and technology, as well as job-specific technical skills.

The role is based out of our Dubai Office.

Purpose of the role

To enable the success of senior executives by helping executives navigate complex challenges, make informed decisions, and achieve their goals.

Accountabilities

  • Collaboration with business and senior leadership to develop and implement business strategies that align with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Liaison between different business units and functions, fostering communication and collaboration.
  • Management and coordination of strategic initiatives, projects, and change management efforts to optimize business processes and strengthen the control environment.
  • Improvement of operational efficiency within the organisation including the identification of areas for improvement, streamlining of processes, and implementation of best practices to enhance productivity and effectiveness.
  • Development of performance reporting for key metrics that reinforce the strategic objectives of the division and support the external commitments made. Involvement in aspects of financial analysis and budget management, including assistance in financial planning, forecasting, and monitoring of financial performance against targets.
  • Support to business heads in partnership with HR on hiring, workforce planning, joiner/mover/leaver actions.

Assistant Vice President Expectations

  • To advise and influence decision making, contribute to policy development and take responsibility for operational effectiveness. Collaborate closely with other functions/ business divisions.
  • Lead a team performing complex tasks, using well developed professional knowledge and skills to deliver on work that impacts the whole business function. Set objectives and coach employees in pursuit of those objectives, appraisal of performance relative to objectives and determination of reward outcomes
  • If the position has leadership responsibilities, People Leaders are expected to demonstrate a clear set of leadership behaviours to create an environment for colleagues to thrive and deliver to a consistently excellent standard. The four LEAD behaviours are: L – Listen and be authentic, E – Energise and inspire, A – Align across the enterprise, D – Develop others.
  • OR for an individual contributor, they will lead collaborative assignments and guide team members through structured assignments, identify the need for the inclusion of other areas of specialisation to complete assignments. They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
