The Consumer & TMT sector teams cover UK and international global corporations operating across a broad range of sub-sectors, including, for Consumer: Retail, Food & Beverages, Household & Personal Care, and Healthcare. For TMT: Semiconductors / Electronics, Internet, Payments, Software, Technology Services, and Leisure & Gaming.

Purpose of the role

As an International Corporate Banking Director you will have responsibility for:

  • Lead Treasury Banker (LTB): Be the Lead Treasury Banker (LTB) for your clients – responsible for leading the client relationship and ongoing coverage across all our Treasury Products
    • Lead and manage a portfolio of large, complex project clients to maximise sustainable income across our treasury products suite in the Investment Bank. Typically, such clients are highly sophisticated in nature and require an individual experienced and confident in discussing a wide range of financing, capital structure and credit risk dynamics
    • Providing excellent customer service and building deep customer relationships – enabling great customer outcomes
  • RoTE / RoRWA Performance: The role will hold primary responsibility and accountability for the ongoing financial & economic performance of each project related capital deployment, including forecasting and delivering the business case presentations at the relevant committees required to generate strong return profile & income growth.
  • Risk Management / First Line of Defence (FLOD):  Work seamlessly with the Risk Solutions Group (Product Partners) to prioritise the opportunities and financings which best align with our Risk framework and growth objectives.
  • Partnership with Investment Banking Teams:  Core part of this role will require effective collaboration with a) leaders and originators across our broad set of product areas, b) Investment Banking sectors teams including M&A & ECM Product teams.
  • International Coordination of client relationships: Responsible for coordinating project related opportunities pipeline and execution across many international corridors and business areas.
  • Sector Expertise for your client base: Contribute fully to driving the industry specialism for the sector. Demonstrate a deep understanding and awareness of the Industry sector, including metrics and internal and external profile.

Key Accountabilities

Segment Strategy - 15%

  • Delivering against financial and client objectives to enable great client outcomes, by:
  • Formulating, owning and driving a segment strategy plan.  This should be focussed on a specific industry sub-sector or geographic segment or both and will require extensive knowledge on the relevant area.
  • Presenting, negotiating and influencing senior stakeholders to gain buy-in to and to develop the segment plan.
  • Promote and market the Industry, including public speaking engagements, producing articles etc.
  • Owning the public side of the strategy and to lead on presenting this to the external market as one of Barclays leading figures in the relevant space.
  • Ensure a senior external network in order to drive the Barclays brand and market share.

 Client Origination- 50%

  • Delivering against financial and customer objectives, by:
  • Focusing on our existing customers to provide excellent service and be recognised as a trusted advisor.
  • Building and developing KBI networks
  • Targeting prospective customers to develop new relationships and win new business
  • Working with product partners and the wider Barclays Group to increase wallet share, including delivery of complex product solutions
  • Leading and working with product partners and credit colleagues to structure solutions
  • Comply with Salesforce recording requirements, including maintenance of client activity diary, accurate and comprehensive call reports and client plans for portfolio and prospects.
  • Adherence to pricing policies for debt, credit balances & money transmission to deliver great customer outcomes
  • Using prioritisation model to ensure regular contact with customers, including strategic annual review, service meetings, complaint resolution, etc.

Risk Management & Control - 25%

  • Delivering against risk objectives, by:
  • Ensuring effective risk management of portfolio and ownership for all risk aspects including conduct risk and reputational risk.
  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.
  • Operating in accordance with risk appetite and lending procedures.
  • Taking ownership of high quality, objective credit applications, ensure robust on-going monitoring and control and that sound judgement is exercised at all times.
  • Full responsibility and ownership for managing an effective on-boarding process for clients, working with and leading the relevant stakeholders.
  • Ensure high standards of data quality are maintained at all times
  • Working to continuously improve credit knowledge and expertise
  • Building an effective working partnership with credit colleagues
  • Ensure compliance with mandatory Risk policies and procedures relating to credit conformance and regulatory, operational, legal risk and Financial Crime.
  • Managing ‘Early warning list’ customers to reduce risk, ensuring proactive and timely referral to Credit.

Team Working – 10%

  • Support, coach and develop team members
  • Seek, share and lead on implementing best practice both regionally and nationally
  • Lead on Regional and Industry Team projects to drive regional performance and colleague engagement
  • Participate fully in your Performance Development, continue to proactively develop yourself and undertake relevant training (including sales process, product, industry, etc).
  • Make a strategic contribution to ICB at a UK & international level
  • Support and further our position in the local community

Person Specification

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of the Bank’s products, services and policies required to undertake the role
  • Knowledge and experience of managing relationships with large, complex clients, and leading Group Treasury Relationships (as well as C Suite individuals)
  • Extensive knowledge of income drivers
  • Knowledge of Corporate Banking products and propositions
  • Credit risk management expertise – expected to complete risk accreditation to completed within 12 months of being in role and any other targeted learning or annual accreditation and apply the skills to a high level on a daily basis. Able to coach more junior colleagues.
  • An understanding of policies and procedures across the Group relevant to Corporate Banking market.
  • Up to date knowledge of Corporate Banking’s competition
  • Comprehensive understanding of the impact of economic environment on customer’s needs and business.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of mandatory Risk policies and procedures relating to credit conformance and regulatory, operational and legal risk.
