Executive Product Manager

Overview: Accountable for an overall vision for a Journey Group or Platform Delivery Construct (one or more Tribes) and for on-going value within that Journey Group / Platform. This entails setting a strategic vision, creating and maintaining roadmaps, Objectives and Key Results (OKRs), and backlog, managing issue escalations, and continuously addressing customer and stakeholder feedback for Journey Group / Platform Tribe(s)

Delivery Responsibilities:

  • Strategic Vision and Leadership: Sets the strategic vision and long-term roadmap for the Journey Group / Platform in collaboration with Executive Engineering Lead. Defines Customer Journey Owner / Platform and Tribe level Objectives and Key Results (OKRs) that align to USCB's Game Plan strategy
  • Epic Development: Alongside the Executive Engineering Lead, defines Epics, scope, and outcome hypotheses. Provides initial prioritization and develops preliminary cost estimates and anticipated benefit
  • Intake Analysis: Manages the intake process to define epic scope and dependencies in coordination with architects, business owners, and other teams to refine Epic scope and dependencies. Defines MVP features and finalize Lean Proposal
  • Trade-Off Negotiations: Facilitates OKR driven business trade off negotiations as needed from a customer, business, and product perspective. Balances competing priorities, and makes informed decision to optimize resource allocation and achieve key results.
  • Delivery Oversight: Leads Tribe(s) through the product lifecycle from concept to launch, ensuring timely and successful delivery by attending Tribe planning and delivery events
  • Evergreen Roadmap & Backlog Prioritization: Gathers and prioritizes requirements across business demand areas and from customer feedback, decomposing them into actionable product features, and ensuring a consistent and valuable backlog of work for the Tribe
  • Manage Capabilities: Manages Journey Group / Platform collection of capabilities, balancing short-term needs with long-term strategic goals
  • Risk and Dependency Management:
  • Portfolio Epic:
  • Responsible for creation of the Portfolio Epic in Jira and Activation of NavID
  • Responsible for ensuring Journey Group or Platform portfolio has met Governance requirements prior to beginning work (e.g. Approved funding, NavID opened)
  • Responsible for monitoring the PE to closure to ensure governance is met
  • Business Outcome/Epic Creation and Refinement
  • Accountable/Responsible for the development of the Epic business requirements (When Epic impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver
  • Accountable/Responsible for facilitation and coordination to socialize/validate Epic business requirements to downstream parties (When Epic impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver)
  • Responsible for decision making and providing business context for dependency management/ensuring resolution occurs (When Epic impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver)
  • Accountable/Responsible for development of Epic business requirements  (When Epic impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
  • Accountable/Responsible for facilitation and coordination to socialize/validate Epic business requirements to downstream parties (When Epic impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
  • Responsible for decision making and providing business context for dependency management/ensuring resolution occurs (When Epic impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
  • Pre-PI Planning Feature Roadmap:
    • Accountable/Responsible for the development of the feature business requirements (When Feature impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver)
    • Accountable/Responsible for facilitation and coordination to socialize/validate feature business requirements to downstream parties (When feature impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver)
    • Responsible for decision making and providing context for dependency management/ensuring resolution occurs (When feature impacts 2 or less dependencies to deliver)
    • Accountable/Responsible for the development of the feature business requirements (When Feature impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
    • Accountable/Responsible for facilitation and coordination to socialize/validate feature business requirements to downstream parties (When feature impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
    • Responsible for decision making and providing context for dependency management/ensuring resolution occurs (When feature impacts 3 or more dependencies to deliver)
  • PI Planning Feature Roadmap through PI Execution:
  • Accountable/Responsible for Feature creation/refinement and story development (Any Scenario)
  • Responsible for Feature level slotting and prioritization (Any Scenario)
  • Responsible for Feature level dependency creation in RAID and Jira (When feature has 2 or less dependencies)
  • Responsible for Feature level dependency creation in RAID and Jira (When feature has 3 or more dependencies)
  • Vendor Dependency Management: Supports the Executive Engineering Lead manages vendor dependencies at the Tribe level for integrations and technology implementations
  • Anchoring Construct:
  • Ideation-
  • Responsible for raising Tribe Driven demand as the Demand requestor or empowered delegate (e.g. Demand Owner, Monthly Syncs)
  • Accountable/Responsible for working with demand requestor or empowered delegate to understand business objective/requirements and identify anticipated Epic-level dependencies
  • Intake Screening-
  • Responsible for performing fit assessment informed by JG&P roadmap (leveraging VMO aggregated information/data)
  • Responsible for creating the Portfolio Epic in Jira (Pre Jira/Navigator integration)
  • Reporting: Prepares and presents the rolling roadmap, OKR updates, and business benefit summaries during corresponding leadership events
  • Event Attendance: Acts as the primary spokesperson for the Journey Group / Platform. Attends Tribe delivery events and leadership events, including the Journey Group or Platform Sync, and Cross Journey Group & Platform Sync. Considered a formal member of the Journey Group / Platform Leadership Team
  • Planning Participation: Participates in Pre-PI Planning and PI Planning activities

Purpose of the role

To  lead and manage engineering teams, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality software solutions, driving technical excellence, fostering a culture of innovation, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to align technical decisions with business objectives. 

Accountabilities

  • Lead engineering teams effectively, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture to achieve project goals and meet organizational objectives.
  • Oversee timelines, team allocation, risk management and task prioritization to ensure the successful delivery of solutions within scope, time, and budget.
  • Mentor and support team members' professional growth, conduct performance reviews, provide actionable feedback, and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Evaluation and enhancement of engineering processes, tools, and methodologies to increase efficiency, streamline workflows, and optimize team productivity.
  • Collaboration with business partners, product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions and ensure a cohesive approach to product development.
  • Enforcement of technology standards, facilitate peer reviews, and implement robust testing practices to ensure the delivery of high-quality solutions.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
