In the Research team, you'll drive the efficiency and advancement of research processes, generating valuable insights that optimise research outcomes for Barclays. Your work will support the organisation in making informed decisions and staying ahead in the industry.

Embark on this exciting opportunity as a Research Analyst in the Asia FX & EM Macro Strategy Research team, where you will play a pivotal role analysing macroeconomic trends, market developments, policy changes, and technical drivers across Asia to help shape investment views and trade recommendations. You will contribute to research reports, presentations, client materials, and other publications that communicate the firm's market outlook on EM Asia FX and rates markets. You will collaborate closely with economists, other strategists, and global Emerging Markets colleagues to support forecasts and market analysis, with a focus on the whole Asia region and particular emphasis on Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. You will maintain and help to build analytical tools, databases, and quantitative models to strengthen the team's research capabilities across the region. You will also help communicate views to clients and internal stakeholders while ensuring work is completed in line with the firm's risk, legal, and regulatory standards, including MAS requirements given the Singapore base of this role.

To be successful in Asia FX & EM Macro Strategy, you should have experience with:

Required Skills

  • Relevant experience in macro research, strategy, or financial markets, with a demonstrable focus on Asian economies,  currencies and rates. 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Science, or another relevant quantitative discipline.
  • Strong understanding of macroeconomics, financial markets, and emerging market dynamics, with depth across ASEAN and broader Asia.
  • Solid analytical and quantitative skills, with the ability to interpret economic data and market trends accurately, including central bank policy across the region.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong attention to detail and the ability to work collaboratively across regional and global teams.

Desired Skills

  • Experience using economic and financial data platforms such as Bloomberg, Haver, or similar market databases, particularly for Asian market data.
  • Knowledge of statistics, econometrics, or quantitative modelling techniques applied to FX and EM strategy.
  • Programming or data analysis skills, such as Python, R, Excel VBA, or other relevant tools. Strong expertise in applying AI and emerging technologies across a broad range of use cases.
  • Prior experience preparing research publications, presentations, or client-facing materials, ideally covering Asian markets.
  • Progress toward a CFA or other relevant professional qualification.

You may be assessed on key critical skills relevant for success in the role, such as risk and controls, change and transformation, business acumen, strategic thinking, as well as job-specific technical skills.

This role is regulated by Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS).

Purpose of the role

To produce and deliver differentiated research and actionable trade ideas on Emerging Markets Asia FX and rates to Barclays internal and external Clients.

Accountabilities

  • Analysis of market, sector, corporate and/or economic data to help develop investment theses for your coverage universe to produce best in class Research.
  • Research may range from individual company or sector notes, through to long dated thematic reports.
  • Presentation of Research views to Barclays Clients; this can be through direct, face to face and virtual interactions, Research hosted events and written communications.
  • Engagement with Markets, Client Strategy and other stakeholders, to raise awareness of your Research both to Clients and internally. Prioritise interaction with the most relevant and valuable Clients for your Research.
  • Provision of insights and Research views to internal Clients to help them navigate financial markets and risks.
  • Collaboration with the Supervisory Analyst, Compliance and other stakeholders to ensure Research is produced and delivered to Clients and internal stakeholders in a compliant manner.

  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.

  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
