Required Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. 
  • Relevant industry certifications such as CCNP, CWNP, or equivalent. 
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in network engineering, with a focus on campus and branch environments. 
  • Proven track record in implementing and supporting SD-WAN, DIA, wireless, and remote access technologies. 
  • Experience with DevOps practices and network automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python). 
  • Configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Terraform), and Infrastructure as Code. 
  • Strong background in documentation management, preferably using Confluence. 
  • Demonstrated ability to create technical diagrams and reference architecture using industry-standard tools. 
  • Knowledge of risk management and compliance frameworks relevant to network operations. 

Skills and Competencies 

  • Network Architecture: Deep understanding of campus and branch networking, wireless technologies, and Edge solutions. 
  • SD-WAN & DIA Expertise: Hands-on experience implementing and supporting SD-WAN and Dedicated Internet Access solutions. 
  • Remote Access Solutions: Proficiency in secure remote connectivity technologies. 
  • Documentation & Visualization: Ability to create and maintain technical documentation in Confluence and develop detailed network diagrams and reference architectures. 
  • Risk & Compliance: Knowledge of security standards, regulatory frameworks, and risk mitigation strategies for network environments. 
  • Troubleshooting: Advanced diagnostic skills for resolving complex network issues across multiple layers. 
  • Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills for documentation and stakeholder engagement. 
  • Organization: Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 

Edge Engineering Technical Skills 

  • Wireless Networking: Expertise in enterprise Wi-Fi design, deployment, and performance optimization. 
  • Edge Security: Familiarity with secure edge architectures, firewalls, and zero-trust principles. 
  • Automation & DevOps: Proficiency in scripting and automation tools (Python, Ansible) to streamline network operations. 
  • Performance Monitoring: Ability to use network monitoring and observability tools for proactive issue detection. 
  • High-Impact Change Management: Experience executing complex network changes with minimal downtime using structured processes. 
  • Reference Architecture Development: Skilled in creating scalable designs and standards for edge deployments.

Salary / Rate Minimum: $220,000

Salary / Rate Maximum: $300,000

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above includes only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any another type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

Purpose of the role

The Network Edge Engineer plays a critical role in designing, implementing, and maintaining robust campus and branch network environments. This position is responsible for supporting wireless networks, WAN and Edge technologies—including SD-WAN, Dedicated Internet Access (DIA), and remote access solutions. Additionally, the role encompasses DevOps and automation initiatives, documentation management using Confluence, creation of technical diagrams and reference architectures, execution of complex network changes, and oversight of risk and compliance activities. The Network Edge Engineer ensures network reliability, security, and scalability while contributing to continuous improvement and operational excellence. You will join Barclays at a pivotal moment in our Networks Modernization journey, leading and delivering the transformation of our strategic network infrastructure platforms and connectivity products. Production Network Engineering is a new, mission-aligned operating model within the Network Product Design and Engineering domain. This domain is responsible for the design, build, and run of the underlying strategic network infrastructure platforms and the over-the-top connectivity products and services that enable systems, colleagues, guests, and partners.  As a senior leader, you will have the opportunity to shape the future of our global network infrastructure, influencing how millions of customers, colleagues, and partners connect and collaborate. This role operates within the Product Operating Model, emphasizing product-centric delivery, cross-functional collaboration, and agile ways of working. 

Accountabilities

  • Design, deploy, and manage campus and branch network infrastructures, including wireless, WAN, and Edge technologies. 
  • Implement and support SD-WAN, DIA, and remote access solutions to optimize connectivity and performance. 
  • Execute high-impact and complex network changes in accordance with established change management protocols. 
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts and workflows to streamline network operations and support DevOps initiatives. 
  • Manage and update technical documentation in Confluence, ensuring accuracy and accessibility for stakeholders. 
  • Create detailed network diagrams and reference architectures to support planning, troubleshooting, and knowledge sharing. 
  • Monitor, assess, and mitigate network risks; ensure compliance with relevant security and regulatory standards. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support business requirements, incident resolution, and project delivery. 
  • Proactively identify opportunities for network optimization and innovation. 
  • Support incident response and problem management for critical network issues, ensuring rapid resolution and root cause analysis.

They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
