Job Description Summary

This is a Managing Director role in the Stress Testing & Impairment (“ST&I”) Finance Transaction Cycle with dual responsibility as ST&I Controller and India Head.

As ST&I Controller, the role is accountable for impairment-related reporting (including Board Audit Committee materials and external disclosures), governance and controls, and serves as the senior internal and external liaison on all IFRS 9 reporting and control matters. In addition, the Controller is responsible for end-to-end execution and oversight of internal and regulatory stress tests across Barclays.

As India Head for ST&I, the role provides strategic direction and leadership to multidisciplinary teams of c.200 colleagues across multiple locations in India and drives process and technology transformation aligned to the strategic vision for ST&I and Finance. The role partners closely with senior stakeholders across Finance, Treasury, Risk, and Technology.

Key Accountabilities

IFRS 9 impairment leadership

  • Deliver IFRS 9 impairment reporting and disclosures for Barclays Group and material entities, including external disclosures, Board Audit Committee papers, committee materials and Group Outlook reporting.
  • Lead quarterly impairment governance processes, including the Group Impairment Committee and associated forums.
  • Oversee the impairment controls framework, including year-end SOx testing and external audit activity (e.g., KPMG) covering IFRS 9.

Stress testing data, process and controls

  • Lead end-to-end execution of internal and regulatory stress tests, ensuring timely, accurate and well-governed submissions and reporting.
  • Own the control environment for stress testing processes, including RCSA, issue management, BIA coordination, and compliance with BCBS and internal data governance requirements.
  • Identify control or process gaps, lead remediation, and drive continuous improvement.

India Head for Stress Testing and Impairment

  • Lead and manage the ST&I organisation across multiple locations in India, setting a high-performance culture focused on execution excellence, risk and controls, transformation, and colleague development.
  • Drive transformation of core stress testing and impairment processes in support of strategic Finance initiatives (e.g., Catalyst), including simplification, automation and improved controls.
  • Act as a senior leader within India Finance, contributing to broader Finance and Group-wide strategic priorities and talent initiatives.

Managing Director Expectations

  • Provide clear, credible leadership to Finance/Risk executives and senior committees IFRS 9 outcomes, including management judgements.
  • Represent ST&I credibly with auditors, regulators and senior internal stakeholders, translating complex technical outcomes into clear executive insights and decision‑ready narratives.
  • Maintain end‑to‑end accountability for the ST&I control environment, setting a strong tone from the top on risk discipline, governance, audit readiness and timely remediation.
  • Lead and develop a large, specialised ST&I organisation across India, fostering a high‑performance, inclusive culture focused on execution excellence, control ownership, and talent development.
  • Drive the strategic evolution of the ST&I operating model in India, including process simplification, automation and technology‑enabled transformation aligned to Group Finance priorities.
  • Partner effectively with senior stakeholders across Finance, Risk, Treasury, Technology and Operations, balancing independent control ownership with constructive collaboration.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Extensive senior-level experience (15+ years) in stress testing, credit risk, impairment, capital analytics, or related fields within global banking.
  • Proven leadership experience managing large, specialist teams across geographies, with a strong track record of building capability, developing successors, and leading through change.
  • Demonstrated ownership of complex control environments, including governance, audit management, regulatory engagement, issue remediation and data quality oversight.
  • Track record of driving operating model transformation, process simplification and technology‑enabled change within Finance or Risk functions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical outcomes clearly and concisely to senior decision‑makers.

Purpose of the role

To develop and implement the bank's financial plans and stress testing methodologies by assessing the bank's resilience under various economic scenarios.  

Accountabilities

  • Development and implementation of stress testing methodologies and analysis of the results to identify potential vulnerabilities, assess capital adequacy, and inform risk mitigation strategies.
  • Management of the bank's financial risks, including development and implementation of risk management strategies and communication of financial risks to relevant stakeholders.
  • Analysis of the bank's capital position and assessment of its ability to meet regulatory capital requirements, development of capital management strategies to optimise capital utilisation and evaluation of the impact of capital allocation decisions on the bank's risk profile and financial performance.
  • Orchestration of process cycles for the Planning and Stress Testing FTC and project managing delivery of the Planning Process and stress tests).
  • Documentation of requirements prescribed by the Regulator, Process/Data Owner Tracking and reporting cycle progress via P&ST Steer Co, POC, Working Groups and the workflow tool.  .
  • Management of data, dataflows and data quality from contributors - input through to report submission.    .
  • Management of BAU systems to enable a quick outcome and iterative generation of Capital or Funding plans and separately drive process reengineering initiatives.    .
  • Ownership of the control's environment, standards, conformance, partnering with BIA to ensure the FTC meets its controls and governance objectives.   .
  • Provision of ongoing governance support including but not limited to Regulatory liaison, Group & BBUK Board engagement, Group Attestation & KPMG engagement.

  • Demonstrate interpretative thinking for innovative solutions in complex situations and conceptual thinking in completely new situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant / complex business and strategic decisions that impact the Barclays Group, business division or function.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally and foster growth for Barclays business.
  • Mandated as the business division/ functional spokesperson or representative to external bodies and shapes the public image of Barclays.
  • Demonstrate exceptional knowledge of how business divisions and functions integrate with the Group to achieve the overall business objectives alongside industry theories and practices within own discipline.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive functional expertise and significant product knowledge.
  • Accountable for the control and governance agenda of the business division / function.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays.
