In Risk Barclays develops, recommends, and implements controls and cost-effective approaches to minimise Barclay's risks, identifies and analyses potential sources of loss to minimise risk and estimate the potential financial consequences of an occurring loss.

Join us as a Quantitative Strategist within the Global Asset Allocation team in the Chief Investment Office, part of Private Bank and Wealth Management based in London.

This role sits at the core of our multi-asset investment process, supporting the design, implementation and continuous enhancement of investment frameworks used to guide portfolio construction across client mandates.

The Global Asset Allocation team is responsible for the development of Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) frameworks, Capital Market Assumptions, and quantitative strategy and analytics that underpin long-term portfolio decisions. The team combines macroeconomic insight with robust quantitative modelling to support delivery of scalable, transparent, and well-governed investment solutions.

As a Quantitative Strategist, you will contribute to the ongoing evolution of investment models and methodologies, ensuring they remain fit for purpose in a dynamic market environment. You will work closely with investment strategists, portfolio managers, risk, and model validation teams to deliver high-quality analytical outputs and maintain a strong model governance framework.

A key aspect of the role is the ability to translate complex quantitative concepts into clear, actionable insights for a range of stakeholders. You will be expected to build strong partnerships across the organisation, demonstrating ownership of analytical frameworks and contributing to the continuous improvement of the team’s capabilities.

What you will be doing

  • Contribute to the design and enhancement of Strategic Asset Allocation (SAA) frameworks, including Capital Market Assumptions and model portfolio construction
  • Develop and maintain quantitative models supporting asset allocation, ensuring robustness, scalability, and production readiness
  • Support regular SAA review cycles, delivering model-driven insights to inform investment decisions
  • Translate macro views and thematic ideas into quantitative inputs for portfolio construction and investment strategy
  • Enhance the team’s analytical toolkit through improved methodologies, data integration, and quantitative techniques
  • Collaborate with Investment, Risk, Technology and Model Validation teams to ensure strong governance, controls, and model integrity
  • Produce clear documentation covering model methodology, assumptions, and limitations to meet governance standards
  • Analyse large datasets to support model development, calibration, and ongoing performance monitoring
  • Communicate quantitative outputs and investment insights effectively to a broad range of technical and non-technical stakeholders

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong quantitative background in mathematics, statistics, econometrics, or a related discipline
  • Advanced understanding of investment strategy and asset allocation
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to document models clearly and concisely, and explain quantitative concepts to non-technical stakeholders

Desirable skills/Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in financial services industry, working with risk models, optimisation techniques and numerical methods used in multi asset portfolios
  • Ability to work with validators and other stakeholders to develop and maintain model governance requirements
  • Familiarity with AI and machine learning techniques and their application to investment problems; including signal development, alternative data analysis and/or portfolio construction

Purpose of the role

To design, develop, implement, and support mathematical, statistical, and machine learning models and analytics used in business decision-making

Accountabilities

  • Design analytics and modelling solutions to complex business problems using domain expertise.
  • Collaboration with technology to specify any dependencies required for analytical solutions, such as data, development environments and tools.
  • Development of high performing, comprehensively documented analytics and modelling solutions, demonstrating their efficacy to business users and independent validation teams.
  • Implementation of analytics and models in accurate, stable, well-tested software and work with technology to operationalise them.
  • Provision of ongoing support for the continued effectiveness of analytics and modelling solutions to users.
  • Demonstrate conformance to all Barclays Enterprise Risk Management Policies, particularly Model Risk Policy.
  • Ensure all development activities are undertaken within the defined control environment.

  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
