A role in Markets involves trading financial instruments, such as bonds, stocks, and derivatives. You'll also arrange capital raisings, manage debt and equity issuances, and structure, execute, and syndicate transactions for clients.

Oak Pension Asset Management Limited (OPAM) is the primary investment manager of Barclays Bank UK Retirement Fund (UKRF), a top-10 pension scheme in the UK by assets. OPAM is the in-house, FCA-regulated entity that is managing the assets of the UKRF for the Trustee Board.

OPAM is looking for a Reporting and Analytics AVP. The role focuses on the management and development of OPAM’s risk management and reporting functions for both internal and external stakeholders. Supporting UKRF, it addresses portfolio management and regulatory reporting needs, with a focus on Liquidity & Cashflow Management, Risk, and Performance analytics. The position requires collaboration across OPAM and with stakeholders to enhance analytics and reporting in line with industry standards. The successful candidate will gain exposure to all UKRF asset classes and strategies, participating in risk, analytics, and reporting activities, investment strategy, transactions, and operational processes within the broader OPAM Team.

The role requires: collaboration with OPAM’s Head of Liquidity & Cashflow Management to improve cashflow-modelling tools, focusing more on UKRF liabilities; maintain data accuracy in the portfolio and risk system; review key valuation and modelling assumptions for the Private (illiquid) portfolio; regularly update analytics frameworks and metrics; periodically assess model assumptions and outputs to ensure ongoing relevance; support the day to day activities of OPAM’s Risk, Reporting & Analytics team, including data reconciliation, and report development & production.

To be successful as a Reporting and Analytics AVP, you should have the following experience:

  • Good skills in Microsoft Excel or similar (VBA experience preferred); experience in working with large datasets
  • Interest in financial markets, and exposure to asset management, specifically reporting & risk/ portfolio construction considerations
  • Appreciation of the nature and modelling of liabilities pertaining to a UK DB Pension Fund, and the impact of various assumptions that underpin them
  • Collaboration and stakeholder management skills across the OPAM team, Barclays, Trustee Board and external strategic partners. Ability to maintain and leverage such relationships to deliver many of the role objectives and responsibilities
  • Good understanding of the key elements and considerations of investment performance, risk, liquidity and ESG reporting

Some other highly valued skills may include:

  • Experience with front office portfolio systems (e.g. Aladdin)
  • Understanding of basic actuarial concepts
  • Knowledge of database systems (e.g. Excel, Access)
  • Python/ other programming languages
  • Experience of system (model / EUDA) development and associated considerations (UAT, model review etc)
  • Quantitative ability with good analytical skills and experience with risk management & reporting systems (e.g. Aladdin, MSCI ESG manager)

Purpose of the role

To provide portfolio management and structuring capabilities implementing investment solutions for client transactions in a fund or other bespoke structure.  

Accountabilities

  • Development and implementation of investment management strategies, considering market conditions, risk tolerance, and investment objectives.
  • Management and monitoring of investment portfolios in line with investment objectives, including making asset allocation decisions to optimise returns and minimise risks.
  • New product design and origination pipeline contribution through market research, assessment of client demand/needs and in collaboration with sales, structuring and other specialist teams.
  • Partnering with other Markets Sales and Distribution teams to define pipeline activity to raise assets in existing funds.

  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.

  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
