Overall purpose of role

A Director-level leader accountable for Planning & Advice Distribution performance across the South region, with responsibility for the regional population of Team Leaders, Wealth Planners and Wealth Managers.

The role leads through a team of Team Leaders, driving commercial delivery, adviser productivity, and quality of advice across the region. It is responsible for translating the priorities of the Planning & Advice business into clear regional execution, ensuring consistent performance, strong coaching disciplines, and high standards of client outcomes.

To be successful as a Regional Director, you should have experience in the following:

  • Proven leader of leaders within Wealth Management, Financial Planning, or Private Banking
  • Proven ability to deliver results via a balanced-scorecard framework spanning commercial outcomes, customer experience, colleague sentiment, and management of regulatory risk.
  • Experience leading multi-team / regional distribution environments
  • Strong understanding of regulated advice processes, suitability, and client outcomes
  • Experience coaching leaders and improving performance at scale
  • Solid analytical capability, including identifying performance trends, drawing insights, and making data-driven decisions
  • Skilled in establishing and nurturing stakeholder relationships across interconnected strategic agendas

This role is based in London and requires regular travel across the South region.

Key Accountabilities

Regional Leadership & Performance

  • Accountability for regional outcomes across commercial outcomes, client experience and adviser productivity
  • Take responsibility for pan WM business initiatives where required
  • Lead delivery through Team Leaders, ensuring alignment, pace, and consistent execution across all teams
  • Use MI, forecasting, and performance insight to identify trends, address gaps, and drive targeted interventions
  • Maintain clear visibility of regional performance, risks, and opportunities
  • Partner with other regional directors to drive alignment in key priorities and ways of working

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Lead, coach, and develop Team Leaders, ensuring effective leadership of their teams
  • Retain accountability for the regional Wealth Planner and Wealth Manager population, with clear oversight of performance, capability, and outcomes through Team Leaders
  • Set clear expectations on standards, behaviours, and productivity across the region
  • Build a strong, consistent performance culture, with clear accountability and follow-through
  • Drive alignment between regional execution and Wealth Management priorities, ensuring consistent delivery
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with stakeholders across Barclays to support delivery, client outcomes, and referral flows
  • Work with colleagues in the region from Private Bank, Business Bank, Barclays Retail Bank to drive a single face to market
  • Act as the senior regional representative, providing insight on performance, risks, and opportunities

Decision-making and Problem Solving

  • Apply strong judgement to balance performance, client outcomes, and risk considerations
  • Use MI and insight to make timely, evidence-based decisions and interventions
  • Provide clear direction to Team Leaders in a complex and fast-paced environment
  • Address performance challenges with pace and clarity

Purpose of the role

To manage relationship management initiatives and set the strategic direction. Provide support to the bank's senior management team, and to manage product development risk across the organisation. 

Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for relationship management, including the implementation of up to date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of relationship management initiatives, including oversight of colleagues and their performance, implementation of departmental goals and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.  .
  • Relationship management of stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third party services.
  • Development and implementation of policies and procedures for relationship management.
  • Management of relationship management risk, including identification of potential risks, development of strategies to mitigate those risks, and maintenance of alignment between the bank’s relationship management and compliance functions.  .
  • Monitoring the financial performance of relationship management, including revenue, profitability, and cost control.
  • Conducting thorough market research to understand market trends, competitive landscape, and regulatory changes to identify market opportunities.

Director Expectations

  • To manage a business function, providing significant input to function wide strategic initiatives. Contribute to and influence policy and procedures for the function and plan, manage and consult on multiple complex and critical strategic projects, which may be business wide..
  • They manage the direction of a large team or sub-function, leading other people managers and embedding a performance culture aligned to the values of the business. Or for an individual contributor, they lead organisation wide projects and act as deep technical expert and thought leader, identifying new ways of working and collaborating cross functionally. They will train, guide and coach less experienced specialists and provide information affecting long term profits, organisational risks and strategic decisions..
  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
