In Risk Barclays develops, recommends, and implements controls and cost-effective approaches to minimise Barclay's risks, identifies and analyses potential sources of loss to minimise risk and estimate the potential financial consequences of an occurring loss.

Join us as a Financial Crime Risk Manager at Barclays, where you will play a pivotal role in proactively managing Financial Crime Risk to the Barclays Retail Business, via the oversight of core Financial Crime services, including Onboarding and KYC of customers, Customer and Payment Screening, Transaction Monitoring and CDD/EDD Reviews. The role holder will have experience in risk and control management, including Risk & Control Assessment, Issues Management and Governance Reporting.  As a self-starter, the role holder will be able to manage their own workload, identify and solve problems, and communicate risk articulately both verbally and in writing to stakeholders at a senior level. The ability to use data analysis to propose risk appetite decisions as appropriate to a mass market Retail Banking environment will be essential.

To be successful in this role you should have experience with:

  • Proactive identification of risk within processes and current book
  • Knowledge and experience in Risk and Control Management including Risk & Control Assessment, Issues Management, and Governance reporting requirements
  • Ability to analyse data, identify trends and succinctly articulate findings and to senior audience
  • Stakeholder management at a senior level, both verbally and in writing.
  • Evidence of being a self-starter, able to problem solve and manage (and find) their own workload, across multiple workstreams
  • Evidence of delivery of projects end to end and management to deadlines
  • Strategic / enterprise wide thinking
  • Financial Crime experience

Additional skills include:

  • Understanding of the Retail risk environment
  • Understanding of Fin Crime industry risk standards and best practice
  • Leadership is more essential than Line Management experience

This role can be based in London, Glasgow, or Northampton.

Purpose of the role

To support the Risk Function in delivering it’s objective of safeguarding the bank's financial and operational stability by proactively identifying, assessing, mitigating, and monitoring risks across various business units and activities.

Accountabilities

  • Development of strategic direction for risk, including the implementation of up-to-date methodologies and processes.
  • Management of the risk department, including oversight of risk colleagues and their performance, implementation of risk priorities and objectives, oversight of department efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Relationship management of risk stakeholders, including identifying relevant stakeholders, and maintenance of the quality of external third-party services.
  • Adherence to the Risk policy, standards and frameworks, and maintaining a robust control environment.

They will identify new directions for assignments and/ or projects, identifying a combination of cross functional methodologies or practices to meet required outcomes.
  • Consult on complex issues; providing advice to People Leaders to support the resolution of escalated issues.
  • Identify ways to mitigate risk and developing new policies/procedures in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work done.
  • Perform work that is closely related to that of other areas, which requires understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategy.
  • Engage in complex analysis of data from multiple sources of information, internal and external sources such as procedures and practises (in other areas, teams, companies, etc).to solve problems creatively and effectively.
  • Communicate complex information. 'Complex' information could include sensitive information or information that is difficult to communicate because of its content or its audience.
  • Influence or convince stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
