Barclays makes markets in nearly all major asset classes, providing sophisticated, timely solutions to our clients. Quantitative positions in our Sales and Trading teams are filled with candidates who like to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and exciting environment. The chance to make an impact

As a summer analyst, you’ll spend 10 weeks in our New York office learning about the market as well as Barclays’ global businesses, products and services. You will complete three rotations on different Sales and Trading desks across the following areas:

  • credit
  • equities
  • equity financing
  • foreign exchange
  • municipals
  • rates
  • structuring

The right candidate will have a background in one or a group of the following:

  • physics, mathematics, finance or engineering, with relevant coursework in statistics, linear algebra, optimization, machine learning and stochastic calculus
  • experience analyzing large data in one or more programming languages: Python, C++, Java, etc.

Through your desk assignments, you’ll develop a solid understanding of the global markets, building your communication, quantitative and analytical skills. You may:

  • build and back test mathematical models
  • monitor markets and help formulate trade ideas
  • analyze market, fundamental and technical data
  • present your results to their immediate and related teams
  • attend client meetings or calls with traders, salespeople and research colleagues.

To be considered for this program, you must:

  • be a bachelor’s degree student with an anticipated graduation date between December 2026 - June 2027.

Ideally, you would also have:

  • a GPA of 3.4 or above.

Purpose of the role

To participate in the day-to-day activities of the markets division providing insights and expertise that help senior colleagues make informed decisions, develop new products and services, and identify new market opportunities.

Accountabilities

  • Execution of small research projects, research to support strategic decision making, preparation of presentations and reports to communicate research findings, collaboration with senior management to implement research findings for the global markets division.
  • Collaboration with cross-functional teams to support business initiatives.
  • Participation in training and development programs to enhance skills and knowledge.
  • Identification of opportunities, development of business cases, management of the deployment and launch of new products and services for the global markets division.
  • Management of client relationships and provision of customer service support to clients and customers, under steadily decreasing supervision, responding to questions about products and services, processing of transactions.
  • Management of the development and implementation of financial models and strategies that support in decision making in the global markets division.
  • Training and mentoring of junior colleagues.
