Corporate Lawyer - Group Corporate & Treasury Legal
Glasgow

As a Barclays Corporate Lawyer - Group Corporate & Treasury Legal (GCTL), you will provide professional advice and business partnering to GCTL’s core clients. GCTL is a team comprised of corporate and capital markets specialists with an accountability to support the Barclays Head Office functions on matters including general corporate advisory, financial reporting, capital markets transactions, regulatory capital, and other projects or legal issues of group-wide significance.

Barclays is one of the world's largest and most respected financial institutions, established in 1690, with a legacy of success, quality, and innovation. We offer careers that provide endless opportunity – helping millions of individuals and businesses thrive and creating financial and digital solutions that the world now takes for granted.

At Barclays, we offer a hybrid working experience that blends the positives of working alongside colleagues at our onsite locations, together with working from home.  We have a structured approach where colleagues work at an onsite location on fixed, ‘anchor’, days of the week, for a minimum of two days a week or more, as set by the business area (or nearest equivalent if working part-time hours). Please discuss the working pattern requirements for the role you are applying for with the hiring manager. Please note that as we continue to embed our hybrid working environment, we remain in a test and learn phase, which means that working arrangements may be subject to change on reasonable notice to ensure we meet the needs of our business.

What will you be doing?
•    Leading on providing direct legal support to GCTL’s clients, which will include running matters independently and providing technical expertise in own coverage areas
•    Advising and leading in respect of certain areas of the legal review of, and corporate advice in relation to, quarterly financials, half-year and full year financial reports and AGM preparation
•    Being accountable for advising on the Companies Act, UKLA Listing Rules, Disclosure and Transparency Rules, UK Corporate Governance Code, and the UK Market Abuse Regulation
•    Advising on corporate governance, board support and other company secretarial activity
•    Advising clients across Barclays functions on company law issues arising from Senior Managers Regime (SMR) and other UK Individual Accountability Regimes (IAR)
•    Leading and advising on ad hoc strategic projects including (but not limited to) equity issuance, share buy-backs, strategy updates, and contingency planning for material news items
•    Delivering to function clients ad hoc corporate or commercial queries
•    Providing the day-to-day mentoring and knowledge sharing across GCTL

What we’re looking for:
•    Qualified lawyer, or equivalent
•    Background as a Corporate Lawyer with experience of corporate advisory
•    Experience of UK Companies Act, Disclosure and Transparency Rules, Listing Rules, and UK Market Abuse Regulation
•    Experience and ability to interact with the most senior stakeholders, and to present advice in a succinct and solution-oriented manner

Skills that will help you in the role:
•    Experience in an in-house role, in particular within financial services
•    Experience of Equity Capital Markets (ECM) and corporate mergers & acquisitions (M&A)
•    Experience working for a listed company

Where will you be working?
Our new state-of-the-art Campus, right in the heart of Glasgow is a hub of creative collaboration. A place where everyone can bring their true selves to work and reach their full potential. Home to 5,000 of our colleagues, our Tradeston campus will support the community in more ways than one - by creating thousands of new career opportunities and celebrating local artists.
