About BX Compliance

BX Compliance consist of multiple teams which support various Compliance functions including Compliance  assurance, Market Surveillance, Financial Crime, Business Oversight Compliance, Compliance Data Analytics,   Employee Conduct, Compliance Policies and Framework, Compliance Business and Project Management etc.

Overall purpose of role

Barclays' Compliance Explorer programme is an immersive, hands-on, two-year programme. You’ll enjoy structured rotations throughout the programme, with one rotation potentially taking you into a related team. You’ll get insight into Barclays' inner workings and what goes into efficient process. And you’ll get exposure to the whole bank – allowing you to build a strong network and great prospects for development.

At a high level the purpose of the role is to provide support to the various Compliance functions which could include check and challenge on requirements and internal policies, support /conduct compliance assurance reviews in line with the regulatory/ internal policy requirements, Support Employee/Client Surveillance and Investigation requirements and drive continuous improvement activities across Compliance with a focus on data analysis and insights. 

Key Accountabilities

  • Liaising with the various functions to ensure adherence to the firm's policies and standards. 
  • Identify and escalate potential breaches of regulatory rules and Barclays’ policies and pro-actively recommend solutions
  • Respond to colleague queries on their obligations and requirements and be ready to respond/assist within our Group-Wide Policy and Standards
  • Participate in both local and global project initiatives, including assisting Technology on any system rollouts (i.e. design specifications, user requirements and testing)
  • Active involvement in enhancing current exception reports/controls and supporting the development of new tools, reports and procedures.
  • Understand the landscape of oversight activities & data across the Compliance function, and identify and articulate opportunities to support check & challenge rationale with data & insights.


Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Ability to synthesise key messages from data, both in writing and verbally with careful consideration of the audience and the use of data insights to achieve an outcome or reach a decision. 
  • Good inter-personal skills and experience of working in a team, including experience of building effective stakeholder relationships, having integrity, evoking rapid trust and confidence with personal impact and influence especially with senior leaders. 
  • A self-starter capable of managing own workload independently and leading a diverse team to deliver on time.  Actively progresses initiatives with an urgent but positive and influential style. 
  • Displays intellectual curiosity, proactively explores areas of innovation and interested in data science research in the banking and financial sector. Ability to assess workload and make decisions on work priorities.
  • Ensure risks and issues are properly escalated to the senior management including recommendations to rationalize any processes carried out by the team
  • Decision-making and Problem Solving
  • The role requires extensive judgment and analytical skills.  The complexity and breadth of Compliance across Barclays is such that extensive collaboration across Compliance is required as well as the ability to analyse complex data and management information to enable teams to make judgements across a wide range of regulations. 

Purpose of the role

To gain experience of risk management skills, knowledge, and capabilities to deliver a broad range of compliance services to businesses and functions.

Accountabilities

  • Guiding the business’ adherence to the Compliance risk management framework.
  • Advisory services to colleagues about regulation related to specific products and services.
  • Utilisation of data and analytics to proactively monitor and influence the business Compliance risk landscape.
  • Development of Compliance risk insight and understanding, including Laws, Rules and Regulations, Financial Crime and Conduct.
  • Training of business stakeholders.

  • Take responsibility for embedding new policies/ procedures adopted due to risk mitigation.

  • Take ownership for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work you own or contribute to. Deliver your work and areas of responsibility in line with relevant rules, regulation and codes of conduct.
  • Maintain and continually build an understanding of how own sub-function integrates with function, alongside knowledge of the organisations products, services and processes within the function.
  • Demonstrate understanding of how areas coordinate and contribute to the achievement of the objectives of the organisation sub-function.
  • Make evaluative judgements based on the analysis of factual information, paying attention to detail.
  • Resolve problems by identifying and selecting solutions through the application of acquired technical experience and will be guided by precedents.
  • Guide and persuade team members and communicate complex / sensitive information.
  • Act as contact point for stakeholders outside of the immediate function, while building a network of contacts outside team and external to the organisation.
