·General knowledge / appreciation Banking processes and activities, business lines and asset classes and products.

Purpose of the role

To design, develop and consult on the bank’s internal controls framework and supporting policies and standards across the organisation, ensuring it is robust, effective, and aligned to the bank’s overall strategy and risk appetite.  

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure that the processes managed by FD&E stay on track and are monitored closely. Any issues must be highlighted and resolved quickly and transparently.
  • Effectively manage the Controls Library and its processes. Interface with various stakeholders to identify opportunities or address any concerns.
  • Manage Controls Library processes linked to Laws Rules and Regulations and the RCSA process.        
  • Provide the business with expert guidance, support, oversight and independent challenge to ensure that all material business risks and key controls are identified, documented, measured, monitored and mitigated.

Stakeholder Management and Leadership

  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills.
  • Able to communicate confidently and effectively with people at all levels, both verbally and in writing. 
  • Engage with stakeholders to develop and maintain excellent working relationships across multiple teams.

Risk and Control Objective

Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise-Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards.

Person Specification

  • Curious and inquisitive mind.
  • Data driven, able to synthesise recommendations from large and varied sources of data.
  • Ability to influence upwards.
  • Autonomous and able to influence & deliver in a matrix organisation.
  • Organised with the ability to prioritise and work under pressure, delivering to tight deadlines and multiple demands.
  • Collaborative and able to share best practice at all levels.

Essential Skills/Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience of working in or within a risk or control type role / team, ability to demonstrate a risk management mindset.
  • Good Project Management skills
  • Strong Excel skills including extensive experience in managing large quantities of data, pivots, formulas, VLOOKUP
  • Able to translate broader requirements into specific deliverables.
