­­­­­­­­­­­­­­Overall purpose of role

This role has the following core activities –

  • Providing Strategy oversight to Card Acquisition. Check and challenge new and/or existing credit change proposals to ensure adherence to Risk Policy/Standards and Risk Appetite.
  • Ensure strategy executed according to Risk Appetite and business operates in line with the policies and standards

Key Accountabilities

  • Be responsible for implementing and maintaining a strong control framework within BCUS with effective quality assurance to ensure 1LOD adhere to Risk Appetite, ensure robust governance of decisions and full compliance of risk activities to internal and external guidelines. Maintain effective relationships with the Group Risk teams and auditors. Provide oversight of BCUS 1LOD teams.
  • Manage a direct team of 5 FTE and leverage indirect risk team of around 20-30 FTE in shared services. Lead the team in an inspiring and effective way and ensure they fully embrace Barclays values and are supporting the business in meeting its strategic ambitions in the right way.

  • Developing Others: Sets challenging objectives for personal, team and functional improvement and holds others to account in delivering these. Takes the lead in driving succession planning, ensuring the organisation retains and develops the key talent needed for the future

Risk and Control Objective

  • Ensure that all activities and duties are carried out in full compliance with regulatory requirements, Enterprise Wide Risk Management Framework and internal Barclays Policies and Policy Standards

Purpose of the role

To manage and optimise the bank's overall credit risk exposure by monitoring, analysing, and reporting on the creditworthiness of its lending portfolio.

Accountabilities

  • Monitoring the financial performance and risk profile of the entire lending portfolio, including individual borrowers, sectors, and geographic regions.
  • Analysis of credit trends, identify early warning signs of potential borrowers' issues, and assess the impact of economic and market developments on the portfolio.
  • Development and utilisation of quantitative models and risk forecasting tools to measure and predict potential credit losses.
  • Performance of portfolio stress testing exercises to assess the impact of various economic and market scenarios on the portfolio's risk profile.
  • Definition and setting of portfolio, segment and customer risk appetite, policy and limits. Overseeing first line execution within these parameters.

Director Expectations

  • Provide expert advice to senior functional management and committees to influence decisions made outside of own function, offering significant input to function wide strategic initiatives.
  • Manage, coordinate and enable resourcing, budgeting and policy creation for a significant sub-function.
  • Escalates breaches of policies / procedure appropriately.
  • Foster and guide compliance, ensure regulations are observed that relevant processes in place to facilitate adherence.
  • Focus on the external environment, regulators, or advocacy groups to both monitor and influence on behalf of Barclays, when appropriate.
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of how the function integrates with the business division / Group to achieve the overall business objectives.
  • Maintain broad and comprehensive knowledge of industry theories and practices within own discipline alongside up-to-date relevant sector / functional knowledge, and insight into external market developments / initiatives.
  • Use interpretative thinking and advanced analytical skills to solve problems and design solutions in often complex/ sensitive situations.
  • Exercise management authority to make significant decisions and certain strategic decisions or recommendations within own area.
  • Negotiate with and influence stakeholders at a senior level both internally and externally.
  • Act as principal contact point for key clients and counterparts in other functions/ businesses divisions.
  • Mandated as a spokesperson for the function and business division.
