What will you be doing?

Barclays Capital Inc. seeks Investment Banking Associate in New York, New York (multiple positions available):

  • Support large corporate, government, and institutional clients by providing a full set of solutions to their strategic, financing, and risk management needs.
  • Work on a wide range of projects such as company valuation, strategic advisory, and execution of M&A and debt and equity offerings.
  • Responsible for healthcare as a sector, including pharma, biotech, med-tech, and healthcare services.
  • Take ownership of projects to drive processes forward and lead day-to-day transaction execution mandates (e.g. M&A, debt financing, IPO or equity transactions).
  • Build and maintain relationships with clients, understand their needs and initiate business development ideas.
  • Prepare ad hoc analyses per client’s request.
  • Monitor the industry sub-sectors trends, generate transaction ideas and lead pitch drafting to secure new execution mandates.
  • Educate clients on specific sub-industries, products, and current market trends.
  • Manage and mentor deal teams in the delivery of execution mandates including the supervision and guidance of junior staff, delegation and division of work and review of final client deliverables.
  • Project manage deal teams of up to 6 direct reports staffed to each specific transaction / project, overseeing their work to ensure business deliverables are met timely and accurately.

Salary / Rate Minimum/yr: $250K per year

Salary / Rate Maximum/yr: $275K per year

The minimum and maximum salary/rate information above include only base salary or base hourly rate. It does not include any other type of compensation or benefits that may be available.

This position is eligible for incentives pursuant to Barclays Employee Referral Program.

Purpose of the role

To manage the bank's principal equity investments portfolio, ensuring that it aligns with the bank's principal investment strategy and risk tolerance by the analysis of market conditions, selection of appropriate investments and divestments, and monitoring of the performance of the portfolio.  

Accountabilities

  • Identification and screening of principal equity investment and divestment opportunities that align with the bank's overall business objectives, risk appetite, and regulatory requirements.
  • Research and due diligence of various investment and divestment opportunities in principal equity investments, to select appropriate transactions for the portfolio, including follow-ons.
  • Execution of transactions and portfolio management of the bank's principal equity investment portfolio, ensuring that it meets the bank's strategic investment objectives and risk tolerance.
  • Analysis of the performance and periodic valuation updates of the principal equity investment portfolio, evaluating its performance against risk indicators and investment strategic objectives, and preparation of regular performance reports for relevant internal stakeholders.
  • Implementation and maintenance of effective risk management processes to identify, measure, monitor, and control risks arising from transacting in principal equity investments.

  • Manage and mitigate risks through assessment, in support of the control and governance agenda.
  • Demonstrate leadership and accountability for managing risk and strengthening controls in relation to the work your team does.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive understanding of the organisation functions to contribute to achieving the goals of the business.
  • Collaborate with other areas of work, for business aligned support areas to keep up to speed with business activity and the business strategies.
  • Create solutions based on sophisticated analytical thought comparing and selecting complex alternatives. In-depth analysis with interpretative thinking will be required to define problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Adopt and include the outcomes of extensive research in problem solving processes.
  • Seek out, build and maintain trusting relationships and partnerships with internal and external stakeholders in order to accomplish key business objectives, using influencing and negotiating skills to achieve outcomes.
