Lead Cyber Operations Detection Engineer
Knutsford and Glasgow


As a Barclays Lead Cyber Operations Detection Engineer, you will be accountable for proactive mitigation of Barclays Attack Surface for new and emerging cyber threats. You will work directly alongside the Head of Countermeasures to ensure that sufficient and effective controls are frequently validated and are in place to protect Barclays network defences. This will be the ideal role for someone experienced with development of detective controls and the ability to work within a global team.

What will you be doing?
• Working as part of a multidisciplinary team in the delivery of information security and privacy response services to the global retail and commercial enterprise
• Accounting for workload prioritisation across junior colleagues
• Undertaking the ongoing delivery of detective controls and countermeasures across a range of security tooling
• Providing effective handover of detections into CSOC and ongoing lifecycle management of detections
• Providing operational detection & countermeasure creation support during ongoing incidents
• Validating detection & countermeasure effectiveness using dedicated control posture testing capability
• Assisting with the threat hunting function to defend the Barclays environment from Internet and Insider threats
• Helping in the Purple Team testing efforts aimed at assisting in reducing identified risks via innovative detections, controls & countermeasures


What we’re looking for:
• Solid grasp of the activities required to perform cyber incident response
• Experience in gathering Threat Intelligence & leveraging the Intelligence Lifecycle to defend an organisation
• Prior experience of Threat Hunting within a Corporate Network
• Prior experience in Threat Tracking & Countermeasure Development and working alongside a Corporate Red Team function


Skills that will help you in the role:
• Knowledge of Cyber Kill Chain, Mitre Attack Framework, IDD and Security Operations function
• The ability to identify operational risks and issues in a fast time environment, and take proportionate and appropriate actions
• A good grasp of a Corporate, Physical Security Environment
• Experience in engineering, coding/scripting and automation techniques


Where will you be working?
You will be based in Radbroke, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our tech command centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64 acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play.
